Chapter 5: Panic

Race POV

        As me and Jack get closer to the lodging house, I'm in my own world. I don't pay attention to anything but the image of Spot in my head.

        "BOO!", I jump and turn around. My heart's racing. It's Albert, that bitch!

        "DON'T DO THAT!", I yell playfully while punching Albert in the arm.

         "HEY!", he yells back laughing. His red hair all messed up now.

          "C'mon, it's almost seven!", Albert says putting an arm around my shoulder as we walk back. I wanna tell Albert about everything, how I feel about Spot, but I can't! I've known him almost my whole life, but I don't know if he would say somethin' by accident.

When we walk in, I see Les tryin' to slide down the rail of the stairs. Davey's probably talkin' over the whole gang thing with Jack in the other room cause if he saw this he would have a fit.

          Elmer, Jojo, buttons, and Specs are up there with him telling him how to hold on.

         "Race! Watch for Davey!", Specs says a little quiet so Davey didn't hear. I stand at the end of the stairs lookin' around for Davey. I give them the thumbs up with a smile, and Les starts to slide down. His face looks like we just gave him a puppy!

           When he makes it all the way down, we all cheer. That was his first time and he made it the whole way down without fallin'!

            "What Jus' happened!?", Jack asks wide eyed and smiling. Jack isn't much like Davey. He encourages this kinda stuff, where Davey does the opposite!

             "Les Jus' slid down the railin' for the first time!", Jojo says happily.

             "Hey!!! You finally did it kid!", Jack said high-fiving Les. I smiled, he's so lucky he doesn't know what romance is. He's lucky he's so innocent.

             "What's going on!?", it was Davey! All of us exchanged a look of "oh shit".

             "What did you do!?", Davey asks us, sounding more worried now, he knows us.

             "I jus-", Les was cut off by Albert.

             "He jus...tied his shoe?", REALLY AL!? We all just stood there waiting for Davey to say somethin'. It was only 2 seconds but it felt like 20!

             "That's it?", Davey asks. We all look confused.

             "Yep!", I says, tryin' to break the silence.

             "Ok...well Les and I should be heading home.", Davey says grabbing his paper bag. They's so lucky they got a home and money. But I don't care, I've got friends.

              We all said goodbye to them and as soon as Davey closed the door we all burst out laughing. No one knew what happened or how Davey believed us, but he did!

               "Alright", Jack says after he's done laughin', "We otta go to bed, it-", Jack gets cut off. There was a loud noise comin' from outside. We don't know what to do. We all just stand there lookin' at each other, a little worried. It could be those guys Spot was talkin' about.
