Terry and the guys ran down the stairs.
“Damn Mad you're rich! Why do you drive that hunk of metal when you got all this money?” Darrell asked. “You know only like five percent of Texans have a basement-”
Terry interrupted, “And that five percent is loaded!”
“My dad had this house built for my mom, and she wanted a basement for her crafts, but then she left, so I got the basement.”
“So is your bedroom down here to?” Rex asked.
“No, it's on the second floor.”
“Tell your daddy I need a loan,” Vinnie added.
“Stop messing around guys, I want to play,” Victoria remarked.
We played Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin.
When we finished the guys just stared at us, blank expressions.
“Darrell finally broke the silence, “Holy hell, that was amazing.”
They started clapping for us.
“If y'all could write your own music that would be incredible. We might even have some competition,” Vinnie said.
I looked at the girls, we all just smiled.
Later that night Darrell asked me if we would be interested in playing at Savy's. I obviously said yes, he told me he would talk to the owner.
As the guys started getting ready to leave Rex came up to me.
“Hey, you guys are great. Can't wait to see y'all play on a stage in front of people.”
“Thanks.”
“If Darrell or Vinnie gives you a hard time about being a cover band you'll just have to ignore them. We started out as one. They just know you guys can do way better than that. I do too.”
“Yeah I get it. Maybe one day we will figure out how to do the writing stuff.”
“I gotta get out of here. They're ready to go.”
He went in for a hug. It seemed to last a few minutes.
“Goodnight Rex.”
“Night Katie.”
