Thrashing and punching in every direction I tried to get free from his death grip. I managed to land one good punch right up between his legs. "Ow!," he shouted, still keeping a good grip on me. It was a failed attempt but at least it caused him some kind of pain. Muffled screams escaped my throat blocked out by his hand. "Hey calm down! I don't want to hurt you, just calm down." A gentle voice demanded. I felt his hand loosen up on my mouth. "I'm gonna take my hand off now but please stop screaming." I nodded my head and he let go. I bolted from his arms and ran behind a teachers' desk and backed up against the wall, staying as far away from him as I could. "What the heck is wrong with you!?" I screamed "Um, could you please calm down, I didn't mean to-" he started but I cut him off. " To what? Give me a heart attack? Make me late to class on my first day of school? Who do you think you are!?" His eyes looked sad and guilty, almost hurt. "Please keep your voice down. I'm sorry, that was wrong but I just wanted to return this to you, you left it behind in homeroom." He pulled out a pink notebook from behind him. "Oh," I looked at the ground, guilt rising rapidly after attempting to punch him in the face multiple times. "Sorry about that but next time just yell 'hey' instead of chasing me down and throwing me into an empty classroom." He scratched the back of his head nervously and smiled. It was a surprisingly nice smile. "Yeah, sorry about that. I'm not really good with people." I just smiled. "Well then I'll see you around." Walking towards the door he stopped me. "Wait, um, my names Zack.Uh Halen. Zack Halen." He said putting out his hand. "Daija Galvin." I giggled at how nervous he was, and took his hand. A tingle went up my arm and I found myself not wanting to let go. But I did anyways. He laughed shyly, a small spark of happiness in his eyes. And, were those...dimples? "Hey I'm sorry for looking but it was open and I couldn't help but notice that you're an amazing artist," he said pointing at my notebook. I blushed. "Um, thanks." "You should join the art club." I raised an eyebrow. Was he serious? "Um," I thought of the nicest way to put that art class was stupid, made me look like a total nerd, and it was one thing that got me bullied last year. That notebook was where I expressed my emotions, like a diary in drawing. Art was my passion but I could never go back to art class. Not after Casey. "Uh, no I don't think I should." He stared at the floor and stayed like that for a while. Thinking. After a moment he looked up. "What if I came?" I looked at him. "And why would you do that?"
"Because maybe you just need someone with you to make it fun."
"Do you even like art?" He thought for a second. "Like it, but completely suck at it. Maybe you could teach me how." I looked down and stepped towards the door. "Thanks but no. I don't think I'm up to it."
"Come on."
"No."
"Please."
"Not happening"
"Come ooon."
"Nope."
"Pretty please?"
"NO. I'm sorry." I made my way towards the door but he grabbed my arm sending a burst of tingles along it. "Wait." He stared into my eyes and I felt as though fireworks were exploding inside my stomach. I tried to fight them down but he just kept staring into my eyes and the fireworks just got more excited. I wanted to melt. "Please just...just consider it okay? I think you have amazing talent and a lot of other people might too, so you should share it with others." I sighed. "Okay...I'll think about it." He smiled. I held up my index finger. "That doesn't mean a definite yes. Just a maybe." He smiled even wider. "It's still something."
We walked out of the classroom and he followed me down the hall. "Do you happen to know where Mrs. Malones class is?" he asked.
"Yeah I'm heading there right now."
"Cool can I walk over with you?"
"Yeah sure." This kid didn't seem so bad after all. Besides he was kind of cute.
"By the way nice punch." I noticed how he limped a little as he walked next to me.
I giggled. "Thanks, I guess."

When we got to Mrs. Malones class we were 5 minutes late. She gave us a piercing look once we got in. She looked like a really strict teacher. She wore an uptight looking outfit, dull red lipstick, black heels, tight bun, narrow glasses, tight brown skirt with a matching blouse, and a frown. The bad thing about that was when it comes to strict teachers and I, we don't exactly workout well. "Is there a good reason why the two of you are late to my class?" she said giving us an above-the-glasses look. Tasha looked from me to Zack over and over again and she started jumping her eyebrows up and down at us. I let out a small giggle and Zack held in a laugh. "Is something funny to you?," Mrs. Malone snapped. "I asked a question and I'm expecting an answer."
Ugh, I thought, if I could just throw one good punch and knock her and her little do-do looking bun out- "Daija was helping me figure out my schedule because I was lost." Zack said quickly interrupting my thoughts. "I'm new here." She looked from me to Zack for a little bit like she was wondering if we were lying. Giving up she shook her head and sighed. "Well alright then sit down." I walked over to my desk and sat down, noticing every girl in the classroom staring at him. I wanted to throw up. Mrs.Malone stared at me like she was waiting for me to do something, anything that would give her the right to get me in trouble. That made me furious. It was only the first day of school and a teacher was targeting me. I felt like a tick bomb exactly 2 ticks away from exploding. "Yeah that's right. You better shut up before I shut you up." I mumbled. Zack let out a small laugh. She turned around and glared at us. Tick."Daija," she said in her stupid high-pitched voice. Tick. "Is there something you would like to share with the class?" BOOM.
I slapped my hands onto my desk and stood up. "Matter of fact there is somethi-"
"She forgot her pencil in homeroom." Zack said quickly, sitting in the desk behind me and tugging my backpack down causing me to plop back onto my chair, saving me another load of trouble. "Well next time speak up young lady, an attitude like that won't help you in my class." She suggested in an annoyed tone handing me a pencil. She shook her head. "Tsk,tsk, tsk. Children these days. Late to class and unprepared..." I rolled my eyes. "Thanks." I whispered over my shoulder to Zack. "You're welcome. She was getting on my nerves
too anyways." I giggled quietly and he smiled. "You know you don't have to stay there if you don't want to." I said, noticing he was still sitting behind me. "No it's fine. I like it here. Besides you are the only person I know and like here so far." That sent a burst of joy in my stomach. "Wait as in friends?"
"Yeah. I mean if that's alright with you?" He said raising an eyebrow. My face felt extremely hot. "Oh yeah of course! Just no more throwing into empty classrooms okay?" He laughed. "Agreed," and put his hand out for a fist bump. "Um, first day of school buddies?" This kid was so awkward and cute at the same time. "Sure," I said fist bumping him."Buddies."
He smiled and I smiled back, looking down quickly as Mrs. Malone gave us another death stare.
When she finaly looked away he whispered something behind me. "Besides from here I can easily play with your hair." I felt a tug on one of my braids. Then another, and another.
