One week later...

Ji Young

"Noon, right?" I ask to confirm the time we planned to go out today.

Dad nods "Yup. Be ready by noon so that we can go out and finally celebrate your birthday. I just need to respond to some emails as well as take two phone calls."

Nodding at each other, he then turns around and heads into his room. Meanwhile I was unsure what to do until then as I entered my room. Looking at the time, I had less than three hours until we go out for my birthday.

Tossing my phone onto my bed, I then flop down onto the mattress before grabbing at dad's journal.

Wonu - Post-graduation:

Running around and making plans for our 4 year anniversary, I somehow found myself at the door of Seo Hyeon's parents. Not sure how I ended up here nor do I know what motivated me to be here, but I had already knocked on the door and awaited for a response.

Her father opens the door, surprised to see me. I was fully expecting him to shut the door in my face, but instead he let me in and let me sit on the couch in their den before leaving the room. My heart was pounding in my chest, nervous about talking to them about how I wanted to propose to the daughter they kicked out.

Her father returns with tea, her mother following behind him. He sets down the tea and they both sit on lounge chairs opposite of me. Before I tried to explain myself, the first thing they asked was how she was doing since she moved out.

I explained our current situation and how we worked and saved up to rent out an apartment, how she got accepted into the 2D animation program at our school. Before they could ask any more questions, I began explaining how I came to see them today because I wanted to propose to her, wanting their blessing even though they disowned her. They both exchanged glances before tears welled up in both of their eyes.

Shocked, I started explaining my intentions "I-I know you two aren't very fond of me dating your daughter, but please hear me out: Seo Hyeon has pushed me to be my best self, and I knew it'd be rude to marry her without the consent of the ones who brought her up. Although your relationship is strained, but out of respect for her, I-"

I was interrupted by her mother getting up from her seat and pulling me into a hug as her father patted my shoulder, both still crying as I felt tears dampen my shirt.

"We're not mad about you wanting to marry her, Wonu." Her father reassured me as he showed a gentle smile.

"Y-you're not? But a few years ago, you both said I was anything but the type of man that was worthy of dating Seo Hyeon."

Her mother sniffled and wiped her eyes before looking up at me "We know, but we were regretful once she moved out. We saw that she was happier and more lively in spirit once she met you. Meanwhile we were just..."

"Just too controlling of what we wanted for her." Her father finished his wife's sentence "We just wanted the best for our only daughter, though I guess we became a little too overbearing and controlling over her. We only realized our mistakes when she left without hesitation nor regret. She hadn't contacted us at all for the past four years."

I remained silent as they both pulled me in for a hug, staying silent as I was still processing the situation.

"She may not view us as her parents anymore," Her mother trails off for a moment "but please take care of her for us Wonu. Promise us that you will?"
