Surrender

I stared at the deadly look that she had on her face. I was trying to handle the pain and she had only one thing in her eyes - my death. She pulled the staff out with such a force that some blood was spilled on the ground.

I groaned from the pain. Glenstorm had told me that it was a sin to bleed on a ground like the one in Aslan's How because Narnians considered it to be holy.

I fell on my knees and had tears forming in my eyes. I looked at her as I fell and saw her moving around me. I fell fully on the ground and withered as she walked around me. "When I heard of the Forbidden Prophecy having taken place, I didn't believe anyone."

"You tried to kill me." I said, referring to the dream.

"Smart girl." She didn't think that I would figure it out. "It is a surprise that you were able to see the dream." Her voice echoed throughout the room. It was only her and me. "But I guess that weak minds....." She sat down in front of me and brushed my hair out of my eyes. "....are easier to control."

I stumbled out of her grasp, wanting something to support my back. "I remember your parents." She said as I tried crawling away from her. "They were a lovely couple." I walked around one of the edges of the Table. I wanted to look at Aslan if what I feared was going to happen. "But they were always so against me."

I whimpered. I couldn't die. Not then.

"I decided to end their reign

"I decided to end their reign." I scoffed. "But I admired their courage." She said as she saw me like a bug ready to be smashed on. "They were ready to go to a large extent to protect themselves." Jadis pulled something out.

I rested my head against the Table as I looked at the icy wall in front of me that I knew had Aslan's face behind. I tried picturing it in my head.

"But I couldn't believe how they were able to manipulate-" She continued.

"You manipulate people." I spitted out but all she did was laugh.

"I feel bad for you right now."

The Witch held a knife in her hand. She was going to complete what she had started. She admired it while I remembered something, something that connected my dream and if you remember, I mentioned air coming from somewhere when I was at the How in the beginning. The hag mentioned something about an escape during the dream. I knew that I saw something that I couldn't explain. I knew that something was weird during my visits to the How. How could I feel air on my face when I was in the deepest chamber?

I felt the answer as I touched the Table to pull myself up. My hand slipped and I turned around to see why that had happened. It was a loose rock.

Something that the hag had felt entered my head. I could feel in my gut. That was the answer. It had to be.

Only one way to find out the truth.

I pressed the rock and both of us heard a loud whirring that filled the entire room, only because there was a pin-drop silence. You couldn't have heard it unless you were looking for it.

I pulled my dagger out, which I had hidden in the side of my boots and swung it across the Witch's face. She was able to defend herself but fell down doing so. She fell to the ground and I walked up to the rock that had opened the secret passageway. There was a lever inside which I pulled and closed to the door before the Witch could get to me.

I had to escape. I had to.

I held onto the stones on the wall for support as I made my way up. I walked up the stairs as I pressed my stomach with one hand. I looked at my other hand and found it covered in blood - my blood. I could smell the copper in the air. I could even taste it as I tried breathing through my mouth. My lungs hurt.

Ignoring the pain, I prayed. I prayed for a way out of danger. I couldn't leave everyone behind. But I needed answers. I never belonged anywhere all my life and finding out about my past had been my life's goal.

"Was it worth it?" I heard Caspian's voice in my head. He would never say that to me. I was hallucinating. I had to be. Of course I had to be.

I saw a light at the end of the staircase and as I came out, I saw that I was in a clearing. It was nice to be in the open area. Fresh air swept my face and it was easier to breath.

There was a tree nearby and green foliage beneath me. I walked out to the clearing and looked to my right, I was on the valley at the top of the How and there was a forest behind me. That was weird because we couldn't see that there was any land on top of the How. But that was how it was constructed. The enemy couldn't know about the potential target spots on the top.

I lost my balance and fell to the ground. I felt peaceful all of a sudden. I turned around and lay down on my back, looking at the night sky and saw the moon shining brightly instead of concentrating on the pain. The sky and the moon would fade away soon enough but it would come back soon.

The question lied in whether I would be able to see it? Was I the sun or the moon?

I saw the stars fading away as the sky became brighter with the shine of the sun. But the clouds were gathering together and blocked my view. Maybe I was the stars. I was a child of the cosmos.

I took my hand away from the stomach and rested it on the ground

I took my hand away from the stomach and rested it on the ground. I played with the soft grass and closed my eyes for a minute. "It would just be for a minute." I promised myself.

They say that when you are dying, your whole life plays in front of you. But for me, it was only a short episode from the beginning of my life. It was distant yet clearer than anything I had heard my entire life.

I heard two of the most important people because of whom I was alive. "Oh, baby." I saw a female's face in front of me. She had brunette hair and she was very pretty. Her hands smelled of flour and butter.

"Mother." I whispered and smiled because she was smiling.

Even if it the memory was faded, it was recognizable. I knew who it was.

"We'll get her to safety." I heard another voice - a male's.

"Father?" I spoke out loud.

"We love you very much, dear." I felt something wet on my forehead.

"You will live, baby girl." They said.

"Mom?" I groaned in pain.

Something fell on my forehead. It was cold and small. I breathed out or sighed, I cannot remember. Soon, that 'something' multiplied and I felt the grass near me go cold and wet. The smell of the earth filled me and I could feel the pain gradually go away.

I smiled and then laughed. It was raining.
