JEON JUNGKOOK. Y/N Y/L/N is a bright, straight A-student who has never understood the social ladder of high school. When she isn't busy with college applications and/or homework, she spends her spare time in a quiet library and watching funny videos online. She has never been the one to bring attention to herself or for anyone else for that matter, but when she stands up for a new foreign exchange student named Jeon Jungkook, everyone can't help, but stare at the girl who stood up to the most popular boy in school for a person that she barely knows.
"Please Mrs. James," Y/N closed her eyes and begged her neighbor who stood in front of her door with a frown on her wrinkled face.Today was one of those days where she had to work unexpectedly and needed someone desperately to look after her younger brother. He was a small child and couldn't stay at home by himself. Her conscious wouldn't let her. "I will pay you extra as soon as I get my next pay check."
"No need for that," Mrs. James shook her head as the two-year-old that she grew to love as her on grandson was handed to her along with his diaper bag. "You better be glad I was at home tonight. You know Tuesdays nights are Bingo night."
"Thank you!" Y/N beamed as she furiously wiped the sweat off her forehead. It was very last minute to ask someone for a favor, but her supervisor called her in desperation, asking if she could work since the other person who was supposed to, called in sick.
"Child, don't you worry about that," Mrs. James chuckled as she wanted to give the small girl a hug, but stopped when the younger child laid his head on her shoulders and closed his pretty, brown eyes. "And you shouldn't have to ask me to babysit Langston. Where is your mother to do that?"
Feeling the heat rising towards her cheeks, Y/N shrugged her restless shoulders. The teenage girl hasn't seen her mother since she and her brother was kissed on the forehead and afterward heard the front door close. "She hasn't been home since this morning. I guess the hospital called her in on her day off."
Shaking her head as she heard the excuses, the older woman felt sorry for this family. Since the children's father walked out of their lives a couple of years ago, they were barely surviving. "They just taking advantage of her and it's sad that she doesn't see that."
"I tried to tell her that also," Y/N pulled her purse onto her shoulder and watched as her brother became unconscious to their conversation. "But she always says that I need to stay in a child place so I try not to get in the way or voice my concerns."
"Maybe I could speak some sense into her," Mrs. James decided as she heard the city bus traveling down the road. The sound was utterly annoying, to say the least, and could be heard from a mile away. "Well, you go on now. I don't want you to miss your ride and you can't pay me back."
Nodding her head and giving her thanks again to the lady who was like a second mother to her, Y/N walked off the porch and onto the sidewalk, heading over to the bus stop.
The weather wasn't as pretty as it was this morning, but the senior in high school felt content with the gray clouds hanging lowly from the sky and the wind blowing through her coarse hair.
It was great weather to walk and feel comfortable in.
Rocking the sleeping boy on her shoulders, Mrs. James watched the soft-spoken girl as she pushed her feet towards her next destination, not realizing that she was looked after of. The gray-haired lady felt her heart being tugged as the bus came to a stop and Y/N got on with a small smile.
Walking back inside her small house and closing her front door back, Mrs. James knew the smile on her face didn't reach her sleep-deprived eyes. Instead, it showed sadness and heartache and the woman didn't know what to do to change it.
"Nice to see you again," Nance, the bus driver looked down at Y/N as she took the last step and paid her bus fare. He knew her since she was a little girl and was always his favorite bus passenger.
"Same for me as well Mr. Nance," Y/N smiled as she pats the old man on his shoulder before taking her seat in the back of the bus. She wasn't getting off no time soon and didn't feel the need to sit up in the front and be bothered by other passengers.
Taking her phone out of her purse, Y/N plugged in her earphones and sighed in exhaustion as music filled her ears and heart.
The sweet sounds of Yoongi's new album were the cause of her to close her eyes and picture herself in a different situation where she wasn't going to a place that she didn't want to be at, but somewhere she could happily take her small brother and mother one day.
"Maybe Paris, France," she thought about it as the rain started to beat lightly on the bus' windows causing the scenery to enhance the feelings she was feeling first hand.
One day she was going to take them to a beautiful place, but first, she had to go work and only dream of visiting the Eiffel Tower and eating an endless of authentic pasta for now.
Stopping at the next designated area and looking up at the mirror, Nance shook his head as he saw his favorite bus passenger slumped over.
He hoped that one day, someone would come into her life, and change it for the better.
She was a smart and beautiful girl who sadly had bad luck with life.
