Chapter 37

Jae found herself in quite a dilemma after trudging back up to her apartment complex. She was all caught up in her thoughts. Never in a million years did she dream to have this kind of problem. She never expected that she'd be in some kind of sick love triangle with two men who were both her friends yet they were enemies. Everything would've been simpler if they weren't descendants of mythical characters in their childhood stories.

Well, maybe not simpler but at least she'd only be thinking about romance or whatever love problems she ought to have and she wouldn't have to be afraid of open herself up to the two of them. She wouldn't be tense just thinking of what kind of sensitive information she might give up in a random conversation. She wouldn't be in danger.

She sighed as she found herself in front of the door, praying that Margaret hadn't brought home a couple of her friends like two days ago. Jae exhaled a shaky breath once she swung the door open and there was no one there. She headed to her bed in relief, putting her bag down. She let herself fall on the bed as she stared at the room's ceiling, painted in nude, and peeling at the sides.

A couple of minutes later, the door opened once again to Jae's surprise. "Oh! Hi Jae," Sera greeted when they met gazes. "I'll sleep here tonight. My boyfriend's away for the rest of the week and I don't want to get lonely." She walked over to Maggie's empty bed and sat down, settling down for a while before their roommate appears.

"Okay," Jae responded. She suddenly sat up as she shot Sera a nervous look while fiddling with her fingers. "I, uh, got a question."

Sera was in the middle of pulling her laptop from inside her bag and slightly turned her head to Jae. "Hmm?" was her only answer.

"What- I, uh, what would you do if one of your friends made a move on you," Jae started nervously, glancing outside the balcony every few seconds, "and you've been friends forever and the notion of taking your friendship to the next level hadn't crossed your mind but... there was a time that you liked him before you two were close."

A teasing smile crept up Sera's face. "That's quite a problem you have there, Jae," she said light-heartedly as Jae began to blush. "So, if there really was a time where you liked him then it would mean taking your friendship to the next level did cross your mind."

Jae grunted as she buried her face into her palms. "Well, maybe once or twice..." she whispered as her blush deepens. "He hadn't made a move before so I wonder what changed...?" Jae had asked it aloud to mostly herself but Sera heard it.

Sera's smile widened. She never thought Jae was the kind to have boy problems especially with how reserved she was. "If it was me then I'd go right for it. I mean, I would want to try and experiment, you know? Sure we're great as friends but what if we're perfect as lovers?" Sera commented. "Plus, you're only starting your life. You should come and take every opportunity! You're too young to be overthinking about boy stuff, Jae."

The thought of her and Sam being 'lovers' as Sera put it... it made Jae flustered. She daydreamed about more tutoring lessons, late night talks, and movie nights in his apartment except for this time with... with more flirting or maybe even kissing. Jae let out a strangled groan. It sounded so good and her heart was racing in her chest. She paused, wondering if she'd ask Sera for more. "Yeah, but what if- what if there was another guy—"

Sera had long put two and two together. She knew Jae was either talking about Skye, the handsome smooth talker with freakishly cute hair, and Sam, her resigned brother who seemed to have taken quite a liking to her. Ever since Sera found Sam and Jae in the same room that day, she had her suspicions about their relationship. Sera was wondering whether Jae would finally choose one and stick with it but it looked like it would be more difficult than that.
