"Wake up sleepy head!" Lilith shouted near her friends ear. Rosa woke with a start as a shrill screeching noise escaped her lips. She threw a stuffed animal at Lilith in her shock. "What was that for Lil?" Rosa asked still feeling drowsy. "You can't just sleep like a rock all day today! I want to spend my birthday with my best friend." Lilith replied with a smirk. She pointed to a pastel calendar that had a big pink heart on that Saturday. "Ohmygoodness, I almost forgot!!!" Rosa yelled as she ran over to Lilith; she proceeded to crush her in a tight bear hug. "I....would like to....live to.. see...my...next...birthday.. please." Lilith exclaimed still struggling to breath. Rosa apologized and quickly let go.
The duo quickly got dressed and raced downstairs for breakfast, only slowing once they reached the doorway to the kitchen. Mrs.Shadow and Mrs.Fauna were already there looking as though they were having a troubling discussion. "Are you sure about this? Do you think she's ready? I mean Rosa has hers, but she has no idea of its importance nor what its capable of." Said Mrs. Fauna already dressed in her work outfit. "Yes, besides that's what our partners have requested, they're supposed get them on their 15th birthdays, I trust them, don't worry hun." Replied Mrs. Shadow who was still in her bear onesie with a smile on her face. Mrs. Fauna nodded. Neither Lilith or Rosa understood what they had just overheard, but they knew if they tried to keep spying they would be caught. So they revealed themselves, however they kept quiet and sat down at the table smiling at their parents.

"Hey Honey," Rosa's mother said as she kissed her forehead "I have work, so I will see you both later." She continued, walking out of the kitchen after giving the girls hugs. "Morning mom." Lilith said with a smirk. Mrs. Shadow smiled and responded "Morning hon, happy birthday!" Her tone then shifted as her face turned more serious "Ok before breakfast I need to have a talk with you girls." The girls were shocked, they had never seen her this serious about anything before. Mrs. Shadow had always been one to crack a joke even at the strangest of times so as to lighten everyone's moods, it was one of her most endearing qualities. Lilith was scared to find out what could cause her mom to take on such a serious tone. Sensing the girls discomfort Mrs. Shadow gave a weak smile in hopes to reassure them as she pulled out a small rectangular box and put it on the counter in front of Lilith and said, "This is one of your gifts for today, this is an important part of you and your mother's history" Lilith carefully opened the small box removing the lid to reveal a pendant that was attached to a black choker. The pendant was shaped like fire with shocking shades of deep blues. Rosa gasped, "It's beautiful, and look! It's kinda like mine!" She pointed at her own choker; it had a small Paw print pendant with brilliant shades of green throughout.
Lilith put her pendant on and smiled. "Thank you mom!" With that, the girls ate their breakfast and then proceeded to race upstairs to hang out. "I love how our pedants match! it's so cool right?" Rosa asked with a huge smile as she paced excitedly near her desk. Lilith just laughed in response as she leaned against the bookshelf. However, before she got the chance to respond to her energetic friend, a book from the top shelf fell down on to her head. "Ow! what was that?" Lilith asked, rubbing the back of her head. Rosa walked over and picked the old looking book up off the ground. It was dusty and it's pages were yellow from age. The girls looked up at eachother with confused faces, neither of them remember buying this book.
Rosa dusted off the front cover and read the title outline. " Original Grimm Fairy Tales" Rosa read aloud with a confused look on her face. Lilith gently took the book from her and flipped a few pages, careful not to rip the pages. "Look at this page Rosa, this isn't a story I know." She Lilith points to a story titled "The Twin Pendants". Neither did Rosa. "Once upon a time, there was two young children, they had grown up as best friends, and both of them were incredibly bright and strong willed. When they reached the age of 15 their parents entrusted the two of them with the Twin Pendants" Lilith said reading aloud. With both of them too lost in the story, neither of the girls noticed that their own pendants had begun to take on a faint glow as they read more of the story. "One pendant gave its wearer powers over fire and water and the other gave its wearer powers over nature and the ability to communicate with wildlife." Continued Lilith as Rosa listened intently. The Pendants continued to glow only getting brighter as they continued the story. It was only then that the girls noticed their pendants. "Wh---" Lilith started. Within seconds there was a bright flash of light, leaving only an open book in its wake.
