I lay on my bed looking at the ceiling of my room. I was like that for about what I think is an hour. The world that I knew was a lie. My own mum hid the truth from me, though I could understand that. She didn't want me to get hurt out there.
I think back on the zombie girl I befriended. My mum didn't tell me about the infected either. I look at my paw. Was I supposed to be like this or even exist? I wondered to myself.
No! I thought. I can't think negatively about myself. I have people who care about me. My mum and aunt want to keep me safe. I am able to meet new people in this place.
Someone knocks on my door.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"It's your mother, silly." the voice outside says cheerfully.
"Oh. Well then come in."
My mum enters my room. She was human and was very tall. Her hair was dark brown and her skin had a slight tan to it. Her eyes were a hazel colour. She wore a green apron, a white dress shirt, along with grey-blue jeans. My mum was Apple Digiorno, one of the owners of Bath, Bed, and Tears.
"Is everything okay?" my mom asked, concerned.
"I just have some questions, mum."
"Um, okay." She sits down on my bed alongside me, seeming very confused and uncomfortable.
"Mum, where exactly did I come from?"
She looked at me, shocked at what I asked her. She didn't know what to say for a couple of minutes. She then took a large breath and looked me straight in the eyes.
"I was walking in the outside world, looking for supplies, when I heard some sounds in an alleyway. Worried that I was going to be attacked, I grabbed a bat and headed towards that alleyway."
"What happened next?" I questioned her.
"I saw something rustling in the trash and I got closer. Then suddenly, a little creature fell out. It was dirty and malnourished but it wasn't like any creature I had ever seen before.
" I was terrified at first, as the creature was unusual and I feared that it would attack me. However, that fear was replaced with pity as the poor thing had to fend for itself, without anyone to help. I actually know what it was like to grow up without a parent. I didn't want anyone else to go through that.
"So, I approached it. It was terrified of me, similar to how I was terrified of it. I picked it up and it attempted to escape from me. But I managed to prove to it I wasn't a threat and I took it home with me. Maple was confused at first, wondering why I would take in something as unusual as the creature. She eventually became fond of the creature.
"We started to raise it in this safe house. I admit it was difficult to raise it as it didn't understand much about human society. I came to view it as my own son. And you know what?" She placed her hands on my shoulders, tears forming in her eyes and she gave me a big smile," That little creature I found was you. Adopting you was the best choice I have ever made in my entire life. You were my little ray of sunshine, my greatest source of joy. I didn't want anything bad to happen to you, especially in this cruel world."
My mum immediately pulled me into the biggest bear hug she ever gave me. I hugged her back. She didn't lie to me for any selfish or negative reasons at all. She genuinely did care about me. She loved me and wanted to protect me from all the wrongs in the world. She was my beloved mother.
"I love you, mum," I whispered to her, tears forming in my eyes as well.
"I love you too."
We stayed like that, hugging each other, for what seemed like forever until an announcement was made.
"Everyone please come to room 147, there will be a speaker there that you may want to hear." Aunty Maple announced.

We can't have the cinnamon bun having an existential crisis because that goes against the nature of cinnamon buns.
