We were all waiting for the event to actually start. So far, we had gotten our vacuum things and were waiting in a sort of lobby area in the haunted house. Nep had come with so she could watch and cheer us on, but I noticed she wasn't very happy or excited herself.
"Something bugging ya'?" I asked.
She seemed to snap out of a daze," Oh! No, I'm fine, just spacing out I guess."
I frowned," You've been 'just spacing out' for a while now, yesterday too."
"I guess it's since a lot happened." She said with a shrug.
"Do you miss him?" I asked.
"W-what do you mean?!" She asked, seeming frantic," I just wish he hadn't been put in such an unfair situation is all. No way he could've beaten her and it was just unfair."
I was confused," Are we talking about the same person?"
"W-wait, who were you talking about?"
"I thought you were a bit shaken by the fact that Winnie was literally killed in front of us."
"Oh, yeah, that." She said with a nervous chuckle," Yeah, that was pretty brutal."
I slowly started to piece things together," Wait a minute, you miss Peter, don't you?"
She immediately started blushing profusely," No! I mean, yeah I feel bad he was kicked out but it's not like you think."
"Awwwww," I said teasingly," You like him, don't you?"
She finally caved," It's that obvious?"
"Yeah, you look like you've been dunked in red paint."
We talked a bit longer and I teased her a bit more and then we got onto the topic of the competition.
"Do we really need to stay here?" She asked," I mean, I'm already starting to heal on my own."
"Yes, we do." I said," None of us knew how to treat a bullet wound and from what we've heard, they know a cure. Besides, this whole thing is a blast."
She looked a bit nervous," But what if one of you gets hurt? I don't want one of you to be hurt because of me."
"Nep!" I said, feigning shock," How could you think so poorly of me? I'll have you know I've faced worse odds than a nut job and some pissed off people with weapons."
"Yeah, well, this is an elimination-style competition, which means the closer we get to the end, the higher the chance that we'll have to fight each other. I'm willing to bet the game master is planning on pitting us up against each other the second he can."
I frowned," You've got a point there, but I'm sure we'll think of something."
I started looking around at the other competitors, trying to see what we were up against now. That's when I noticed a very shady looking guy in the corner of the room. And I'm not kidding when I'm saying shady, he had a trenchcoat, fedora, and a shadow that seemed to come from nowhere covering his face.
I elbowed Nep in the arm," Hey, you see that guy?"
She nodded," What about him?"
"I'm gonna go get some drugs from him," I said and started walking towards him.
He seemed very reserved and jumpy so of course, I did my best to surprise him.
"WHY HELLO THERE!" I shouted and he jumped," How are you doing on this fine day?"
"What do you want?" He asked after calming down.
"Well," I said," I figured with your outfit, you would have, y'know, stuff."
