"Um, Clara? Y U no tell me about these boyfriends??" Rachel waggled her eyebrows mischievously at the men who rounded Clara protectively. She blushed fifty shades of red and pushed the men aside.

"It's not like that!!" Clara tried to keep her dignity, but alas, that left her the moment she entered the country of Hearts. Blood stood up and out of the mud as the twins and Elliot raced to his side to ask questions about their condition.

"How are we all alive??" Ace asked, scratching his head and turning in a full circle. "Wrong question- where are we??"

"You're in Scotland." Rachel started to worry for her reunited friend who's friends are not the brightest highlighter in the pack. Boris and Gowland stared at her with a blank face. 😐😐

"What's Scotland?" Gowland asked with all seriousness. Rachel was sure now that they were never going to be a bright highlighter in this pack.

"Ya know... the country?....and.." how could she explain this..

"Guys, we're or in the country of hearts. We're in my world." Clara broke the unneeded silence, crossing her arms in the process. All of the strange people have expressions of understanding, with small acknowledgements like,

"Oooh."

"That's why.."

"Okay."

Rachel only raised her eyebrow even higher. Clara shrugged and made them pile inside her old house. She kept most of the people happy with her instant made tea and they all stay in the living room. Elliot leaned on the window sill with a spare price of cake he had saved for later, while Blood took a few papers of Clara's that were strewn about.

"So, who are you're friends??" Rachel had calmed down now and laughed as Ace pulled her onto the couch next to him.

"I can explain!! These guys are from another world where...um..."

"We're not human! We don't even have hearts and people other than us don't have faces because we are the ones with roles and we have to live by the rules and we were so excited when Clara came to our country because we don't get to see outsiders often!!" Dum finished his long ranting with a dazzling smile. Clara made her face smash into the palm of her hand; now Rachel was more confused than ever.

"Let's start from the beginning." Julius chuckled, and everyone decided it was best for him to tell the story. Who else would? Clara hopped between Boris's open legs on the floor; causing him to blush a deep crimson.

"First you must know the characters. I am Julius Monrey. My main job is to fix clocks at my home, the clock tower. Blood Dupré, a Mafia boss, and his associates, Elliot March and Dee and Dum. They reside at their mansion. Gowland and Boris Array are from the large amusement park where many come to play. And Vivaldi, the queen of Hearts, live in her castle with Peter White as her second in command, and Ace as the knight of hearts." Julius rambled off everyone, pointing to each as they were mentioned.

"As Clara mentioned, we are from another world, the country of hearts. And when in the country of hearts, people's lives mean nothing because they can be replaced easily." The shock on her face was enough to make everyone tense.
"There are four territories divided among this land, each at war with another. The clock tower is the only neutral place against these other three territories. The three places are Hatter Mansion, the Castle of Hearts, and the amusement park."

"Then how are you all sitting in this room without killing each other?" Curiosity driving Rachel to ask the question.

"It's all thanks to Clara." Boris laid his head on Clara's back and closed his eyes tiredly. Now it was her turn to become as red as a tomato.

"Anyway, to answer what Dum had said about us having no hearts, all of the humans in our country have clocks for hearts. When we die, our soul becomes a black void until we regain a new clock. I, being a repairman, see to it that each clock is fixed and returned to a new soul. At least 95% of the population have no face details, as in, no eyes, nose, or complexion differences to tell them apart. Us, on the other hand, are called 'ones with roles' and you could say we're much more important because we are either the ones in command or just plain more interesting. We all still have rules to abide by, and I guess you could say they are like the law. They are also like the rules of a game, in a way."

"What kind of game?"

"A game of life. Of chance." Julius answered before taking a sip of his tea. "In order for the game to even start, the rules state a certain person must enter our world. And in this case, it was Clara. We simply call these people outsiders."

Julius went on to explain the beauty of their world, the calm, peaceful afternoons, the beautiful colors of the season for each territory when April month arrives, all the way down to that science fucked-up time of theirs. Blood set down his teacup and looked around the room. His eyes finally landing on the hated Julius.

"I couldn't have said that summary better myself. Thank you, Julius." Blood smiled a sincere smile, as did everyone else.

No one has ever thought to thank Julius for anything he had done.

Well, except for Clara.
