"Hey yes Chan?".The father presses his phone against his ear with his shoulder, desperately trying to multitask while cooking his children dinner. He eyed Hyunjin in the living room who happened to be trying to teach jeongin how to fly, the baby laying on top of his head.
"Hey Hyunjin don't put him on your head —Yes I'm chan. May I ask who I'm speaking to?".
There was a chuckle on the other end, which now definitely had Chan intrigued.
"It's Woojin".
Chan's could drop his phone right there and then but he didn't want to show his amazement. He tried his hardest to remain calm.
"Oh hey Woojin, what's up?".
"I just wanted to give you a call about hyunjin's condition. I forgot to tell you today at dismissal".
Chan glimpsed over at Hyunjin in the living room who still was trying to fly Jeongin around on his head. The baby being completely oblivious as to what was going on and was giggling his voice away.
"Hyunjin stop it—his condition?".
"Yes. I've been working with him for these past couple of days and Chan— all my students have their basic vocabulary words down at this point. Hyunjin is the only one who can't read them. He had this big tantrum today about how the words didn't make sense to him, it was really intense".
Chan's heart sank.
"But why? What's wrong?".
"Chan I think he's dyslexic".
"Dyslexic? He can't be".
"I asked him to write down the words the way they appear in his mind. He wrote every letter on different parts of the paper and they were in a different order. ".
Chan sighs heavily, this isn't exactly what he expected to hear.
"I don't want you to be stressed about this Chan, alright? I've been giving him workbooks to practice in every night. We can get him through this, he just has to cooperate".
"YesI know—".
Chan glances over at Hyunjin again who happily smiles in jeongin's face while playing patty cake.
"It's just I hope this doesn't effect his advancement to the next grade. He's a smart kid he deserves to move up with his brothers".
"It won't. He can do it I know he could".
"Thank you for telling me Woojin, I had no idea. I'm going to be more on him about his work".
"No problem Chan. Have a nice night".
"Alright I will. Same to you".
And on that note Chan hung up and finished up his cooking. He didn't want to stress about the situation, first he wanted to get him tested to make things official. However he feared Hyunjin being treated differently from the rest. He wouldn't be able to take that.
One by one he sat the bowls out on the dinner table filling them with fried rice.
"Hyunjin?".
Chan calls,
"Yes daddy?".
"Hey did you do your homework for today?".
