————————"Hmm, I don't know. Do you think we need more toilet paper jeongie? Your brothers roll them out for fun".
Chan questions the infant who clings to his chest in his baby carrier, his eyes roaming aimlessly around his father's features. Chan checks the different packages of toilet paper hesitating. Eventually he figured if he didn't buy it now, he'd regret it later.
So what the hell, he threw it in the cart.
He strolls the cart even further into the store looking around the dairy aisle. He retrieves a gallon of milk along with a few dozens of eggs. By now you'd think Chan would know the exact number of items to get being that his house been full for quite some time now.
But no Chan had no clue. It wasn't his chore to go grocery shopping it was his wife's. And she'd know just what to get the children, where to get it and how to make it exactly the way they liked it. He was surrounded by a store full of people, he'd had Jeongin who'd observe him and smile every couple of minutes. But Chan felt lonely in those aisles.
If only there was some way you could call up to heaven, Chan thought.
Only he didn't know if he'd be spending his time asking her what to buy the kids in a grocery store or crying, begging for her to come back.
Maybe a little bit of both.
"That is the cutest baby I've ever seen in my life!".
A disembodied voice squeals drawing Chan's attention away from the hundreds of cereal boxes on the top shelf. He throws the woman a brief smile. She looked dangerously young, however dressed in business attire.
"Oh! Thank you so much".
"You're welcome. Can I see him?".
She asks next stepping a bit closer. Her features were so drawn up in excitement and eagerness Chan knew he couldn't say no. He gestures for her to come over to take a peek.
As soon as her eyes locks with jeongin's the biggest smile wraps around her face and she coos at him playfully. Her gestures were cute even though Jeongin preferred to sink his head further into Chan's chest in fear of the stranger.
"Is he your first?".
Chan chuckles wondering what a household it will be if the ages were flipped, Jeongin the oldest; Minho the youngest.
"No. Not at all. He's my seventh actually".
She gifts her smiles to Jeongin before granting them to Chan.
"You and your wife must give them everything they want. So adorable".
"Yeah—just me. I can't say no to them, they are my everything".
The woman brushes a strand of hair behind her ear before placing both hands on her heart in awe. And there Chan clearly saw the big shiny bedazzled rock, her wedding ring.
"You are so cute. If you ever need anything you can call me".
She assures while clutching a pen from her purse. She insists on jotting down her number on one of Chan's egg cartons. The number that Chan would never call.
He wouldn't hurt her feelings though, so as she left he smiled and waved,
"Nice ring!".
And her cheeks bloomed red in her disappearance. Chan gawks down at his son,
"Did you see that jeongie? Was she trying to set me up?".
