Hinata POV
By the time next week rolled around, the bruises were already gone.We were told that the nationals were going to start up again in two days.
My nerves had gone away in the week I'd spent off the court; now I was just excited.
I tried to avoid talking to Kageyama, the thought of him having even the faintest idea about Atsumu was just too overwhelming.
Atsumu and I messaged a lot.
He would ask me how my day was and if I'd eaten, and every time I got a notification from him my heart would just explode.
I found that he didn't talk much about himself, and that if I tried to ask him he would change the subject back to me.
I didn't mind; talking to him about anything was enough for me.
Atsumu: I heard nationals are in two days. You must be excited
Hinata: Sure am! Our next game is against Nekoma
Atsumu: Be sure to win for me ok! I didn't lose to you only for you guys to be beaten by a bunch of kitties
I giggle a little.
"Who's got you in such a good mood?" I jumped at the sound of Kageyamas voice behind me.
He leaned over my shoulder and looked at my phone. "Atsumu, huh?" he said.
I gulped.
He was so calm about it."It was not!" I say turning the phone off and putting it on the floor.
"How'd you even get his number?" he asks.
"None of your business!" I say sticking my tongue out.
He puts his hand out to pick me up. I accept his gesture and with his help stand on my feet.
"Why don't I give you a couple of sets?" he says "It's still early."
"If your idea of 'early' is eight o'clock I'm extremely concerned about your sleep schedule"
"So you don't want a set-"
"That's not what I said! Hurry up"
I childishly storm out of the room.
He chuckles and follows me with his hands in his pockets. We get changed and set up the nets quietly.
"You ready?" I ask, smiling.
He nods.
As I was running up to the net I could see a smile plastering on his face.
He's been in an unusually good mood recently, and I can't quite put my finger on it.I was happy about it however.
It's nice to see him smiling.
Sometimes I do worry about him.
He assures me it's ok but now I'm actually starting to believe him. After what happened with my mum I've been so afraid of losing people.
Kageyama sometimes reminded me of her, quiet and lost.Unlike my mother Kageyama wasn't just an empty vessel.
That's how I knew he was ok.
That's how I knew we were ok.As I jumped his smile started to give me an uneasy feeling however.
I put my hand out and waited for the ball to be in front of me.
Just as I went to hit it I heard:
"I bet Atsumu can give you a better set than I can"
His words shocked me to my core; so much that I forgot to hit the ball.
Instead when I landed on my feet I stumbled and fell, hitting my head on the floor.
My vision was blurry for about a second or two before I finally found the strength to pick myself up.
My head was still ringing so I didn't have the strength to get back up on my feet but I could see Kageyama quite clearly.
He was looking down at me, monotoned and eyes narrowed.
I tried to speak, but I knew if I did I would throw up.
"Why do you even need me anymore" Kageyama said, totally disregarding the fact that I was about to pass out.
"If he can set to Osamu the way I set to you surely you can be his spiker"
I feel myself try to crawl back when he gets closer, but my hand ends up slipping and I hit my head again.
He picks me up my my collar and I groggily look at him, my body still heavy.
"Surely if you like him better you don't even need me. You can just throw me away like everyone else!" His voice starts to raise and as it does it gives me a headache.
"Hell! You're just like everyone else! You decide you don't need me and trade me for someone like Atsumu!" he's shouting now.
I want to speak to him.
I want to tell him that it's not true.Instead I hear the gym door open and muffled voices saying:
"What's going on?"
"Kageyama what are you doing?!"
"Is that Hinata?"I see Kageyama as he accidentally let go of me and soon, everything went dark...
