Hinata POV
My confused expression quickly shifted into a small smile as I said, "Is that you, Atsumu?""Look at you" he said "Looks like you actually have grown"
Every memory of high school with him faded away. All the bad ones at least.
The good memories keep me up at night in the best way possible.
I could feel a different kind of tension between us as I returned his smirk by biting my lower lip.
I didn't even realise I did it.
I snapped out of my wilding thoughts and so did he when Bokuto put him arm round Atsumus shoulders.
"You remember Atsumu Miya, don't you Hinata? You played him in high school if I remember correctly."
I remember a whole lot more than his name that's for sure...
...even now, I can still get hungry off the memory of his taste.
"It's nice seeing you again" I say smoothly, putting my hand out and gesturing for a handshake.
He returns it with a good grip and says, "Right back at ya"
Unlike my first meeting with Kageyama, Atsumus presence left an uneasy feeling in my stomach.
Unlike Kageyama and I we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to each other.
I sort of just told him that I never wanted to see him again...
From the inside, the gym was a lot bigger than it looked from the outside.
I guess training on beach volleyball grounds it's not easy to differentiate the two.
There were already people there; some I recognised from interviews and such but the only people who's names I knew were Atsumu and Bokuto.
That and the oddly familiar person walking quietly towards us.
"Omi-kun!" Atsumu yelled out at him "Look who I found on the way here!"
He pointed to me.
The guy who was me standing in front of us averted his gaze to take a look at me and said,"Is that Karasunos number ten?"
"Well I'm not anymore!" I said "From now on I'll be on this team"
I don't remember his name...
I know he went to the All-Japan with Kageyama but...Saka...
Sasku...
Sakur..."It's Sakusa" he says "Don't worry I don't remember yours either"
"Hinata" I say "Shouyo Hinata"
"Hinata!" A voice called from higher ground.
When I looked up the coach was there, walking down the stairs and coming up to me."Coach Foster" I said "It's nice to finally meet you"
I shook his hand and he told Atsumu, Sakusa and Bokuto to get set up for practice.
Even though I didn't have a jersey yet or even official practice uniforms he told me that I could train today either way.
"You're a spiker aren't you? Number 13 over there is our setter, Miya"
He pointed to Atsumu who was happily setting the ball to and from the wall.
"I'll do that!" I said "Thanks so much for everything"
I felt my heart start to race as I walked towards him.
He's just as pretty as he was in high school.
I never felt any hate toward him after that incident at nationals.
I was always just kind of scared that he would hate me.
"Miya-san!" I called to him.
"Didn't I tell you to call me Atsumu?" he said catching the ball as I stood in front of him.
"You remember that, huh?"
"Course I do! Samu may not be here but I recon it's just easier"
It's a lot more awkward than I thought it would be.
I thought after our meeting in the parking lot we'd be fine but now that it's just the two of us it's kind of strange.
"D-Do you wanna set for me?" I asked awkwardly "It's been so long since I've jumped on wood"
"You played beach volleyball didn't you?" He told me "How high can you jump now?"
"You'll see"
We talked as I helped him get set up.
His build has changed; he's a lot bigger now.
His muscles are a lot more noticeable."You remember those sets Kageyama used to give you?" he asked me.
I nodded
"And remember what I said to you at nationals?"
"Course I do, 'I'll toss to ya one of these days'"
"That's right. How bout I make good on my word"
I nod, excitedly.
No matter how well I know Atsumu or how long I've known him, I've never played volleyball on the same side of the court as he did.
I'm honestly a little nervous.
"You ready?" he asks
"Always"
I've spoken those words to so many different people in the past couple of years, but this is the first time it's actually meant so much to me.
Always.
I've always wondered what he's been up to.
I've always wondered if he's thought about me the same way I've thought about him.
I've always worried that he'd resent it hate me or even worse just forgotten about me completely.
I've always wanted to see him again.
And now I've finally found him.He nods at me as if to tell me to go.
I nod back and run up to the net.Although running on wood is very different to running on sand, there's a certain familiarity that makes me smile.
I missed this so much.
When I jumped, I was a bit surprised at how far over the net I'd gotten.
Since jumping on sand is a lot harder than jumping on wood, I guess I'm bound to get higher.
Without warning the ball was thrown to my swinging hand and soon it was on the floor.
I missed that feeling.
I missed it so much. The sting on my palm made me feel all fuzzy inside.
I could feel the eyes of the gym on me, but in that moment all my attention turned to Atsumu.
"Atsu-kun!" I said to him "Did ya see that?!"
