Chapter 13: The Nightmares in Ground Oaks

Skyler rested his shoulder on Merith's trying to ease the pain that she felt deep down everything and everyone she loved here is gone Kate knew how that felt when she lost her parents and she hated Merith feeling it too Kate bent down and whispered into Merith's ear I'm so sorry Merith stood up now determined she stepped through the crusty sign that once said ground oaks city and started to walk through Kate stood up and raced after her best friend not afraid either all she knew was whoever did it Merith will get justice for what this person or animal had done Bucky and skyler looked at each other and they too walked through the sign and raced after them. The buildings looked like Acient ruins and the ground the mulch and hay was replaced with soil and dusty mold the stones that once stood were cracked and barely visible The shattered windows made the little light in the houses lit but they were dim almost dark Kate and Merith searched for clues to see if they could find clues to who might have done it they checked a house a dirty open refrigerator held a stench so high that it was hard to breathe the only thing they found was a matchstick box which was empty this could be the object used to destroy this place!! Kate exclaimed Merith nodded or this it's a painting the canvas was full of mold, dust, and dirt the  only thing  that remained clear was the signature on it Merith remembered the signature it was Skyler's favorite artist J. G which stood for John Joseph Granam maybe the person responsible could have loved him too Merith shrugged she didn't have a clue however before they could continue a search a loud scream came from across them it sounded Like Bucky the friends raced And were horrified to find bats vampire bats all around them their  vampire teeth that stuck out the dried blood still lingers from the last meal they had the friends screamed and ran their feet clacking as they ran skyler remembered a flashback when he was 5 his mother would read him stories about Rena the Bat and in each book there was a new bit of information about bats the one book that made skyler more afraid was that vampires would feed off of human blood and when he was 11 he watched a vampire movie on Halloween that featured a vampire digging its teeth into the flesh of the humans neck sucking the blood right out them and the man it had sucked blood out of turned into a vampire he screamed not wanting to become of that nasty fate however the feared adrenaline he was feeling suddenly stopped the vampire bats vanished just like that however it wasn't over Kate ran and tripped over a dead branch upon her were two golden eyes looking at her the evil voice made her queence Kate come here missed me the voice made Kate tremble no it can't be she said But it is the voice said back at her the golden eyes pierced her soul the golden eyes began to transform it arose and Kate whimpered and cried Lord Blazen she shouted So nice to see you Kate Lord Blazen grabbed Kate and he flew her into the air Merith she cried Merith? Merith? Ooh how cute your little friend can't here you now princess Lord Blazen dropped Kate 100 meters into the air just like he did when she was little Kate closed her eyes she did not want to see her fall and then she opened them her body levitating 2 ft from the ground she was alive and she dropped down and got up she looked at the sky no dragon in sight. Merith peeked she heard someon talking loud Fee Fy Fo Fum it kept repeating it was a Giant the giant from jack in the beanstalk however not the childish tale this one from the grim brothers where the giant was killed by Jack with an axe jack started humming as he chopped the beanstalk the giant plummeted he skull crushed blood splashed on Merith as she screamed her nightmare came back and she saw it in person but before her eyes the blood disseapered and so did the giant and jack but how she thought as she yelled for Kate and skyler. Bucky was far away from the group now the fog deepened and darkened it was hard to see especially with glasses on until Bucky bumped into something it was hard it felt like brick slowly the fog lightened to the point Bucky could make it out it was a library one that he's never seen before maybe an acient library however the fascination grew to horror as the library began to burn down to ash books started flying out as his favorite books turned to shreds Lemony Snicket No! Bucky said as it burned to a crisp another book flew out Stephen King No! As he watched that book turn to shreds another book popped out of the shattered window Lois Lowry No! Bucky said and finally the final book popped out the best selling book series Novelty award J.K Rowling's Harry Potter Bucky cried No! He broke down as he watched the library burn to ash and after that it disappeared. Kate and skyler heard the cry of their friend and raced toward her Merith skyler said we got here as soon as we could Kate said guys I'm fine at least now I am what happened bae Merith replied there was a giant and jack from the grim brothers tale it was real My nightmare was the vampire bats and mine Kate stopped she was too embarrassed her fear being someone she killed but she did it Mine was lord blazen Merith sighed scared he might return Kate you've got nothing to worry about him he's long gone the one question Kate had was where was Bucky? Bucky ran faster and faster toward the shadows of his fellow friends and raced faster he finally came to a stop Bucky! Kate said I missed you Kate gave Bucky a big kiss and Bucky told them what happened we all had a nightmare come for us so maybe if we get to the exit of ground oaks we can escape and all our nightmares will stay in there they all nodded they headed left where the exit was our friend walked until they heard heavy breathing it had been a zombie giant and jack and lord blazen not far behind Princess the voice called out Kate closed her eyes and continued to go left picking up her pace Merith screamed and ran skyler looked about Hungry thirsty bats soared down to get him he began to run faster than he ever did in his life and Bucky ran as torched books were thrown at him from oblivion he kept spitting glass like icicles which weighed the books down and cooled down the heat they ran and ran and the fears kept coming Kate said I'm not afraid I'm not afraid she whispered and before long a silent no as lord blazen turned to black goo Guys that's it conquer your fear and you'll be fine skyler whispered I'm stronger than them I'm stronger than them he kept doing so and then the bats vanished they too turned to goo Bucky said Books are full of knowledge just like I am the books stopped flying at him Merith still had her eyes closed the raspy giant still repeating Fee Fy Fo Fum Merith opened her eyes and finally whispered Fee Fy Fo Fum your nothing more than nasty Gum the giant and jack vanished and all of their fears turned to nothing but black goo the sun peaked as the friends reached the end of the tunnel and the green grass, the bright blue sky, the sun shining, and the wildlife that spawns Kate's fur moved through the wind as Bucky gave Kate a peck on the cheek where to now mystical wolf Kate kate thought until a familiar alliance appears with an ergent determined expression it was fall as she collapses on the grass dear loyal friends she said I've got some Bad news they helped their injured friend back up and helped her steady and standing their distress and intrigue as they listened to what their poor friend had to tell
