As Trisha slid backwards, falling through the darkness in the tree hole, she really thought she would meet her end at any moment. But it turned out she only fell for a short way and somehow managed not to hurt herself. The monstrous mother bird had given up and now just daylight flowed down from above. Looking around she saw she was in a shallow hollow depression. She crawled back near the entrance and listened but could not hear nor see any movement outside. But still she waited, just to make sure.
After about an hour with no sign of the mother outside, she dared to climb out of the hole. She looked all around and saw nothing, then stepped down back into the nest. The huge baby chick she had killed was still laying where she had left it, and large egg shells were scattered around the nest. She crossed the nest to where the boy had gone over with the last of the chicks, when she froze, hearing movement to her left. It was coming from the other side of a large piece of eggshell. "Was it another chick?" she thought in terror. Then it sprung around the shell and she fell backward to the ground.
Trisha put up her arms to ward off the beast but was surprised to see a girl standing there instead, holding a large stick in a batter's position, ready to swing. When she saw Trisha, she dropped the stick to the ground and breathed a sigh of relief. She had long flowing blond hair that she wore under a dark hooded cape. A beautiful dark grey gown adorned her figure, making her look just as out of place as Trisha in her own gown. Both girls starred at one another for a moment, and then the girl offered Trisha her hand.
Trisha took the offered hand and rose to her feet asking, "Who are you? Where did you come from?"
"My name is Crystal." she smiled. "I was also captured and brought here by the Vordak while I was taking a stroll through the woods. When it dropped me I quickly hid beneath some large pieces of egg shell. Who are you?"
"Trisha." she smiled back. "I'm so happy to see another person here. Where ever here is. You have any idea how we can get down out of this nest? I'm betting that monster will be back soon. What did you call it? Vordak?"
Crystal nodded. "Yes, Vordak is what the natives here call it. And I can easily make a way down the tree. I have a bit of a gift in the dream world."
"Dream world!" Trisha exclaimed. " You mean we are dreaming? I'm not dead!" Trisha looked at Crystal with hope in her eyes.
"Oh, you must be a newbie." Crystal said over her shoulder as she hurried to the tree trunk. "I've been coming here since I was a little girl. I was five the first time." Crystal pulled a stick out of her cloak that glowed at the tip. She waved it in the air and pointed it at the tree trunk. A beautiful shinning light erupted from the glowing tip of the stick and made its way down and around the tree. She turned back to Trisha and smiled. "Here in the dream world I'm known as 'The White Witch'."
Trisha's mouth was wide open in astonishment. Where the light had touched the tree trunk, there was something growing out the side. Wood steps were forming a spiral staircase all the way down the trunk. All they would have to do is walk down to the ground. "Wow! How did you do that?"
