Trisha hid under a fallen tree, watching the Vordak circle above the canopy. So far it hadn't seen her. She had changed into her green and brown camouflage she wore when bow hunting deer with her dad. She remembered this, though she couldn't remember her father's face. Mike wasn't far away, hiding on his belly under a chokecherry bush. Crystal stood in the open next to a large pine tree, still in her beautiful dark grey gown, trying to lead the Vordak away from the others against their pleads not to chance it. She had her wand out and was prepared to use it, but Trisha did not understand what she could do. Her magic only worked on plants.
As Trisha watched Crystal, she faded. What was happening to her? Was this some kind of magic she hadn't told her about or maybe something she just discovered? She kept fading until she became transparent. Then she was gone.
"Crystal just woke up." Mike called over. "I'm about out of time too. Any second and my alarm..." Mike was gone, vanishing in an instant. Trisha now found herself all alone with the Vordak circling above, searching for them.
"It's okay." She told herself. "I just need to face my fears and wake up too." With courage she closed her eyes willing herself to wake up. Time ticked by and she opened her eyes slowly, expecting a hospital room and her parents nearby. Hopefully Steven would be there too, just scratched and bruised up a bit. Nothing serious. When her eyes opened, she was still hiding under the fallen tree. "Why can't I wake up!" Now she was more frightened than ever. She couldn't wake up and couldn't get away from the Vordak. She looked up while shifting her body to try to get off a rock that was digging into her side. Then saw her mistake as the eagle eyed monster noticed movement but hadn't pinpointed her yet.
Running was a mistake, she knew, but in this case staying still was too. She knew the beast would likely zero in on her at any second. Either way, she was sure she knew what the outcome would be. Should she put all her effort into running for the lodge pole thicket twenty yards away? She would have to cross a more open area than she wanted to get there. The Vordak would surely spot her and swoop her up before she could gain the safety of the thicket.
Then a crash from above. Large stones had pummeled the Vordak. They bounced off the monster and fell to earth all around her. Then spears and arrows rained down, sticking in the ground and into the top of the fallen tree she hid beneath. The Vordak screamed in surprise and retreated towards its nest. Trisha saw her opportunity to make the thicket and ran. But as she ran, she heard a loud cheer from people. It came from up the hill. So she continued through the thicket and up the slope to safety, she hoped.
She climbed as fast as she could, knowing the Vordak could be back any second. Rounding a large pine tree, she jerked to a stop. There in front of her was a pack of huge wolves. They growled and encircle her. One big black curly haired beast lifted its massive head and howled. They growled and walked around her but didn't advance. It was clear they were waiting for something. Then she heard pine needles crunching as running footsteps neared.
