Trisha sobbed into her pillow for a long time. When she finally stopped, and opened her tear-drenched eyes, it was dark and cold in the guest chamber. She knew she couldn't sleep and go back. Nate had told her about the guard outside her room and to ask if she needed anything. Something to eat and drink, and a fire in her fireplace would be nice. She crossed the room in her nightgown and opened the door, peaking her head out. A huge knight was standing guard. He had dark brown skin, muscular build on his nearly nine foot frame. His four head brow protruded much further than a normal human's would have and had that caveman kind of look. He had black hair that was long and matted. She asked for her chambermaid and went back inside.

It was dark in the room and she couldn't find any light switch. Moon light coming through the window was all the light she had, so she grabbed a blanket and sat at the window. Her mouth dropped wide open. There was no moon, but a dazzling galaxy of bright stars flowing by as if on a gentle flowing river in the sky. She laid her blanket down and sat on her knees, watching the beauty of it all. It was so beautiful and peaceful.

A knock on the door came. She called out, "Enter." A young Neanderthal woman came in looking around the dark room before spotting Trisha in the window. She walked to a wall and after a moment a torch lit, lighting a part of the room.

"Hello miss. Can I be of service?" She bowed upon one knee with a shy smile and waited.

Trisha realized she would not stand until permission was given. "You may rise." She finally thought to say in as sweet a voice as she could. The girl stood but didn't make eye contact. Trisha looked up at her. The girl was a good foot taller and had a muscular build, yet feminine, with dark skin like the knight outside. But her straight black hair was long and well groomed. "I'm Trisha. What is your name?"

The girl seemed shocked that she should wish to know her name. Pausing for a moment she finally said, "Nina."

"Nice to meet you, Nina." Trisha held out her hand. Nina looked at it, not knowing what to do. So she did nothing. Trisha smiled and took Nina's hand in hers. "When we meet someone new in my world, we shake hands."

Nina nodded her head in understanding, "Yes miss."

Trisha sighed, and then just told Nina what she wanted. Nina bowed her head and built a fire before leaving for the food. Trisha turned back to the wonders in the sky. After a half hour, Nina returned with a platter of food and drink. She sat it down upon the table, near the fire for Trisha and asked, "Is there is anything else you wish, miss?"

"Would you sit and eat with me, Nina? I really don't want to be alone."

Nina looked like her favorite celebrity had just asked her to sit and have dinner with them. Star struck! Nina finally looked her in the eye and smiled. "Yes miss, I'd like to very much." They ate deer steak, potatoes, and green beans. Then chased it downed with a pint of warm ale. And talked girl talk for hours. Even though Nina was a Neanderthal young woman, girl talk was still girl talk. Boys, hair, makeup, who said what, who did what, boys.
