I instantly jumped with my eyes half asleep to search for my phone as it buzzed on the coffee table in the lounge room. I turned over on the couch and slowly pulled off my blankets after having a nap, afterall, I did wake up at 8 and literally couldn't get back to sleep.
"Hello?" I mumbled with a croaked voice.
"Good morning. This is Gabbi from starbucks cafe, I'm just calling to inform you that you have an interview today with Sarah at 1:30" as soon as I heard those words, my mouth dropped and my eyes widended like I had just been given 3 coffees in one go. I quickly checked the time on my phone, it was 11:00 and I rushed to put the phone back onto my ear.
"Yes! Hello! Sorry, um, I'll be there as soon as I can! 1:30 did you say?" I must've sounded like I had just had 3 coffees aswell because I was talking so fast.
"1:30 yes, thankyou" Gabbi said as I was trying to keep myself calm, I honestly hadn't had a job since I was 14.
"Thank you so much! I'll be there at 1:30!" I quickly hung up and went to go take a shower, by the time I got out it was 11:30. I went to my room and put on a grey thin jumper, cream jeans, a brown beanie and my favourite white Converse. My make-up was done natural and loose curls were dangling from my hair as I left my hair natural aswell.
I think I should introduce myself right now, my name is Harriet, Harriet Lincollen. I have just turned 17 and I live in England with my aunt Lynn, even though I was born in Australia. We live in just a small appartment with two bedrooms but it's big enough for both of us. I'm still in high school, St. North Hellens Secondary, I'm not that popular in school, but I guess you could say I know people as much as they know me. I'm not that tall, quite short actually, I only stand at about 159cm which really isn't much for a 17 year old like me. I have long dark brown hair and green eyes, although I wish I was tanned I'm quite pale, which really sucks for me.
I quickly ate a toasted cheese sandwhich and read the note my aunt had left for me on the table before she left to go to work today, she's a hairdresser. She's only 26 years old, and pretty much lets me do whatever I want, even though I like staying home instead of going out partying like most teenage boys and girls do. For me all I wanted to do was listen to music and shut the rest of the world out.
'Good morning my sweetheart! Today before you leave to go anywhere please hang out the washing. I'll be home at about 9:00 because since it's Friday as you may know it's always busy. see you soon. Xx Lynn' I put the note down and did what I was told... hang the washing. I wouldn't say I was lazy but chores wasn't my thing, even though I push myself to do it all the time. As I was hanging the washing, time seemed like it had flown by so quickly and caught up on me. It was 1:15 and I knew to get to Starbucks I had to walk... Thank God it only takes me 15 minutes!
I locked up and made my way down to the bottom of the stairs into the carpark, it was a beautiful day and the sun on my skin felt like I had just been lifted up to heaven. There wasn't many cars around since I was guessing most people were at work. As I reached the cafe to enter, it was quite busy and as soon as the lady at the cash register saw me she somehow knew who I was and gave me intructions on how to get to the interview room.
"Right this way" a tall blonde hair lady said as she guided me to where I was meant to go.
"Thank you" I said as I sat down in the small room with one table and 2 chairs, she closed the door behind me. Waiting impatiently the door began to open, I saw a lady with glasses, brown hair tied in a bun and a pregnant belly walk in.
"Hello, I'm Sarah" she said with a gorgeous smile and shook my hand.
"Hi, I'm Harriet. Thank you so much for letting me have this chance, I'm really excited" I told her.
"Well that's good, love. I hope you are, I've read your report and you and 5 girls are being interviewed today... So it says here that you have had experiance at the cash register before? From working at grandfathers fruit shop?" she said as she pointed to the piece of paper in front of her.
"Yes... I was only 14 but I think I can still make it work" I told her with a smile on my face.
"... And how long did you work there for, sweetheart?" her eyes stared me down as I began to hesitate. Maybe I was just nervous about finally getting a job, I knew how much I wanted it and I hope she did aswell.
"Until I was 15, so I've just had 1 year of experiance" her mouth turned into a smile and I smiled back trying to re-assure myself that my cheeks weren't going bright pink. I was trying to keep myself together, I guess you could say. She asked me basic questions like when my birthday was, and how I thought my experiance as a cashier was, but as soon as the interview finished I felt a sign of relief just lift off my shoulders.
"Well thank you for coming, Harriet. I will be contacting you to tell you if you have got the job or not" she stood up and reached out to shake my hand.
"Thank you." I said as my hand shook hers back. I walked out of the store feeling quite happy and positive about the job, I was so excited and I just wanted to jump around. While walking back home, I saw a bunch of screaming girls at the end of the street jump up and down with excitmeant. I was curious as to what that was all about, all I heard was "He's coming! They're coming!" and "I'm going to faint!" I continued walking trying to figure out the reason. As I reached to the front door of my apartment the subject completely flushed out of my mind and focussed on getting all my homework together.
I walked in and got my school bag; Algebra homework was the worst. I really couldn't be bothered but I knew I had to get it done. Call me a geek, but I wanted to actually pass in school and become something... Or someone. Time flew by and as I got to my last question my phone went off.
"Hello?" I said as I wrote the sum down.
"Hey, harriet! It's Aunt Lynn, I'll be coming home in about half an hour okay, babe?" I sometimes didn't really understand why my aunt always called me, like she could just text me... She is 26.
"Yeah alright, I'll see you soon! Love you!" I put down the phone and finally finished the last question to my homework. It took me literally 10 minutes, as you may have noticed algebra is not my best subject at all.
Every Friday night my aunt and I have a movie night, so I took off all of my make-up, put my hair into a messy bun and put on my favourite movie of all time... The Notebook. It was beautiful and I could watch it over and over again all day. I went to my room and put on just a basketball jersey and some track-suit pants that were really warm inside. My aunt got home and came over and gave me a kiss on my cheek.
"How was your day?" she asked as I put my phone down on the coffee table.
"Yeah good! I went for my interview today." she turned around instantly with a big smile on her face.
"Did you, babe!? That's great! How was it?" to tell you the truth, I was so excited and happy about it, but nervous to tell anyone... Just incase I get my hopes up and they think I'm upset as anything and just want a hug.
"Good" I replied as aunt Lynn walked into her room. She came back out with a leopard print onesie on and her hair tied in a plat on the side. She walked over with a bowl of chips and sat down next to me.
"What are we watching tonight?" she asked and went to go grab a blanket next to her.
"The Notebook" I replied.
"What? The Notebook? Again? Well... I guess we could watch this." I pressed play and before I knew it, it was only about 30 minutes into the movie and I had fallen asleep on the couch.
