2kim ; eighteenth

"Happy Birthday, Minju!" Yena, Yujin, and Hyewon greeted her happily as the birthday celebrant slowly opened her eyes.

She smiled as she saw her group of friends holding a cake and wearing those cute yet funny-looking birthday hats. The group started to sing 'Happy Birthday' and told her to make a wish and blow the candle.

"Thank you, guys! Thanks for putting effort even if it's already midnight." She said and handed out forks so that everyone could eat the cake.

As soon as she did, Hyewon attacked the whole thing. Scooping a generous amount once, then talking to avoid any suspicions is what she did. Hyewon needed a topic to cover up her 'illegal thing,' and so she asked whether Minju is ready to see her soulmate since some says you will see your soulmate in your dreams once you turned eighteen.

"Hm... Do you believe in those?" Minju asked back.

"Yeah, I heard tons of stories," Hyewon replied and took another bite.

"Same goes with me," Yena added.

"Hmm, Yuj, do you believe in it?" She asked and looked at Yujin.

"For me, no. I don't know why just happens, I guess."

The room became silent as they all eat. Inside Minju, she wonders if she has already met her soulmate or will she see her soulmate in her dreams. It was always exciting for a person to discover their soulmate. Even sometimes, they tend to go a little overboard to identify one.

"Let's have a sleepover!" Hyewon suggested as she picks up the last bite of the cake and cleaning up the box and all.

"Sure. Just grab the extra pillows and blankets in the cabinet. My unit is big enough for all of us." Minju said and stood up to help the other set up their beds in front of the PS4. Of course, they will play games and enjoy the rest of the night.

"Imma beat you all!" Yena competitively said, plopping down the comfortable spot.

The night ended as Minju turn off the TV and walk back to her spot, trying her best not to wake up the sleeping 'competitive losers' as she likes to call them.

After a long night, she finally closed her eyes and let silence take over the dim studio type condominium unit.

She opened her eyes to see her friends lying down on the floor. It was early morning, but she wanted to go to the convenience store for an unknown reason. After all, it was her birthday, so she got up and took a quick bath before heading out to leave her friends who were still asleep.

She pressed the elevator going down. It was a Saturday which means, fewer people are rushing to use the elevator. The door opened, and she went out to head over to the main exit.

"What should I buy here?" Minju thought, still wondering why the hell did she come down here again.

Maybe because of ice cream? Mochi? Rice cakes? She doesn't know. She had no clue why. She just suddenly felt the urge to do so.

As she walks down to the last aisle, she saw a short-haired girl, about the height of Yena and Hyewon. The girl was wearing a coat, beret, and was struggling to reach for the top shelf for the product.

"This is too high!" She heard the girl, frustration dominated in her voice. Minju giggled at the sight but decided to help the girl out. Minju was tall. Not as tall as Yujin, but tall enough to reach for the product with a single touch.

"Thanks." The girl wearing a beret said and smiled. She bowed and ran immediately.

Minju wanted to follow her, but she thought it'd be weird, so she just decided to pick a couple of chips and go.

As she walks out of the store, she suddenly hears her friends and,

"Minju! Minju! Wake up! It's already noon. Eunbi and the others wanted to eat lunch with you." Hyewon said as Yena jumps up and down while Yujin takes a bath.

She made some stretches before getting up and prepare her things. She knows once what Eunbi says, Eunbi doesn't back out even if you say you can't make it or you're too tired to do so.

As she showers, she couldn't forget about the girl she saw in her dreams. The girl was cute, especially when she smiled. She was amazed at how the girl was frustrated but was able to be the cutest person she has ever seen in just seconds.

They went to lunch and celebrated her birthday. It made her feel very happy. Though her parents won't be home till tomorrow, she made sure she had fun.

"Yujin, sit here and behave. Please don't make any noise or bark. You are not a dog. You just resemble one." The professor said. Minju again giggled and sat at the fifth row beside a girl who's wearing a hoodie.

"Hi. Is that seat taken?" Minju asked as she pointed the seat beside the girl.

The latter looked at her. Her eyes grew big as she saw the girl in the hoodie was the same girl she saw at the convenience store.

*beep beep beep beep*

"Oh, gosh. Why did I saw the same girl?" Minju said as she quickly sat up in her bed.

In the next few days and weeks, she still saw the girl on every dream. There was this one dream where she asked her favorite ice cream and talked about their favorites in general. But every time she would ask the girl her name, she suddenly wakes up to the sound of either Yujin, Yena, Hyewon, or the alarm clock.

Today, it was already three months since she started seeing the girl in her dream. She is convinced this girl is her soulmate that she is yet to find.

"Minju Unnie!" A voice called, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Aye, Yujin, what's the matter?" She asked as she saw the younger running towards her like a big dog.

"You didn't forget it's Nako Unnie's Birthday today, right?"

"Oh yeah... Maybe? What time is her party again?"

"Around one hour from now."

"Oh no! I haven't bought a gift! I will be late. Gotta go, Yujin!" She bid farewell and ran towards the mall, leaving Yujin laughing as she saw Minju's worried face.

She decided to buy Nako a rose lamp and a cute music box which plays 'La Vie En Rose by Edith Piaf' to match the rose. She carried her gift and rang the doorbell to Nako's apartment.

"Happy Birthday, Nako-yah!" Minju greeted and gave her a big hug.

"Eh? You forgot it, didn't you?" Nako said and laughed.

"Maybe?"

"It's alright. Come in. We just started."

As she entered the room, She saw their other friends on the table. She excused herself to go to the kitchen to grab water since she didn't want to bother anyone. Entering the kitchen, she saw another figure.

'Probably, Nako invited her too. Should I introduce myself?' She thought.

The girl turned her head and saw Minju and bowed. She hasn't seen the girl's face due to how fast the girl was. However, her figure is so familiar. As soon as she saw the girl's face, she looked at her head to toe. She saw how the girl was wearing a beret, jeans, and a white hoodie.

They both observed each other, trying to figure out where they must've met. Then Minju remembered the beret girl who always appears in her dream since she turned eighteen. They both realized,

"I always see you in my dreams!" They both shouted. Making others rush to the kitchen.

"So.. You two are soulmates?" Yuri asked, trying to process what she just heard.

"We don't know." The girl answered.

"I don't even know her name." She added.

"Well, Kim Chaewon, this is Kim Minju. Kim Minju, she is Kim Chaewon. Now we should start this party since I want to eat already!" Hyewon said as the others laughed, except Chaewon and Minju, who looked at each other's eyes.

"Nice meeting you, Chaewon." Minju mouthed.

"You too." The older replied and smiled at her.
