Chaewon and Yuan, her sister's youngest son, were watching Chaewon's favorite drama. It was the story that is like Romeo and Juliet, but the twist is there always gotta be a third party.
For a young boy like Yuan, this was his nightmare. He didn't appreciate even a bit of the story and would casually play with his cars as her aunt, also babysitter, was analyzing the show. A little move to right, grab his car collection and loudly play.
Chaewon found it disrespectful, but cute at the same time. But when Yuan threw a tantrum when Chaewon said he can't watch the cartoons because Chaewon is watching, she had enough.
"Yuan, listen to me. I am not mad, just disappointed to how you acted. For you to learn a lesson to be contented, I am going to share a short story with you." The boy nod and sat on her lap.
Chaewon then started:
Once upon a time, there once lived a beautiful woman in the bottom of the deepest sea. She was a beautiful, intelligent and proper woman. She had the power to breathe underwater and shapeshift into anything she wanted. She was the daughter of the god of all seas and oceans.
Despite being such a perfect figure, she lived in isolation. Her father didn't have time for her, while her mom ran away when she was kid. She had the urge and strongwill to get out of the sea and finally see the sunlight and the real world.
Because of that, she took her clothes, took her bags and started swimming. She thought, she should start swimming upwards.
And so she did.
It took her almost 5 hours to go finally see a shining light above her. She was swimming, swimming, swimming. She was so excited to see the light and the land and breathe air!
She closed her eyes and a last push made her head above the water. As she opened her eyes, she saw-
"What did she saw? What is it, Auntie?" The young boy exclamed. Chaewon giggled and tap his nose.
"Listen carefully."
She saw nothing but darkness. No islands, just water and the sky. The only bright thing she saw was the glowing moon and the stars. She wandered and swam around. She then realized, the scenarios she taught was finally the real world, turns out to be a fanstasy.
"Auntie!"
"What?"
"Why is it sad?"
"Yuan, remember this. Unlike the woman, you are still living in your dream world. You will still face a lot of meaner kids, bad people and villains. Enjoy this dream world —people from the real world wished to enjoy."
"I don't quite get that, Auntie. I'm only 8, you're 28 and an author. I can't keep up!"
"Oops! Time for bed." She guided Yuan to his bed and prepared him. Just when she is about to close the lights, Yuan called, "Was that really the end of the story?"
Silence.
"Because you didn't say 'The End'. You always say the end."
Chaewon shrugged it off and just said, "It's late though, sleep now, little one."
She closed his door and went to her office. She stared at window looking at the moon.
No, it wasn't the end.
The girl cried upon seeing the other world. It was dark, scary and she just feels more isolated. She hit the water and became a mess. The waves grew big. Bigger and bigger every minute. Until, a woman appeared on the moon looking at her.
There stood a tall, young and pretty girl. She, as well, was a goddess. She saw the mark on her arm —a sign of being a powerful godddess.
"Calm down, princess. This is a fun world." The latter spoke.
"Disappointed to see such darkness?" The girl asked as the goddess of the waters nod.
"I know that feeling. I came from the farthest planet you could ever imagine. And when I finally bounded here, I never expected I would only see waters and darkness."
"So don't worry, I could be your light. It's my purpose. Let's go together and travel to the place we both dream of."
"But two goddesses should not meet."
"Then it's called destiny." The goddess of moon replied.
The goddess of moon explained how the sun rises and she must shapeshift for that mean time. Then, she could show herself once more, during the night.
The goddess of moon was very excited. They travelled for so long, sharing stories and likes. They became the best of friends. The goddess of moon would make the moon shine brighter, and the goddess of waters would show the goddess of moon different fishes.
They soon saw lights and people. They were near the island.
But the god of waters appeared.
"What are you doing, my daughter?!" His father screamed in anger.
"Two goddesses must not see nor talk to each other!"
"We learned to love and accept each other." The goddess of moon tried to stop the god of waters.
"Father please! I just want to be free!"
"As a penalty for your actions, You can no longer see the goddess of moon! I forbid light under the water! And now, you can no longer go outside your home!" The god of water then vanished. She was placed back home and never saw her almost savior.
The end.
"I miss you, Kim Minju." Chaewon whispered under her breath as she reminisced the story of her life.
Yes, it was their story. Though Chaewon isn't the goddess of the sea. They were both separated due to the society that doesn't accept girls who also like girls.
Minju played a big part of Chaewon's life in being the light in ther dark times, and even saved Chaewon from giving up. I guess they universe made them both each other's almost destiny.
