Yujin wandered alone around her school's library to find some good books to read over the long weekend. She carefully picks up some books that seem interesting. With more than three books in hand, she decided to get one last to borrow. She remembered a book in mind she has been dying to read but is always out of the library.
She ran towards the area where she thinks is where the book is. She was excited to borrow it.
"The Day... The Deep Consequences...The Deep Enders!" She almost shouts as she saw the book."Yes!" She stood up and went to the librarian to borrow the books she saw.
As much as she wanted to stay in the library to read these, she can't because of tight schedules. She made her way back home. She quickly greeted her mom, grabbed some snacks, and went upstairs to finish some homework before finally opening the book, The Deep Enders by Dave Reardon.
She skipped dinner because of how enjoyable the story was. She couldn't stop reading it. Reading it in one sitting is near to impossible, but at this rate, Yujin wants to finish the whole book.
As she flips another page, a piece of paper fell. Yujin was intrigued even though it wasn't hers. She held the paper and unfolded it.
"Ho ho ho! A phone number!" Yujin said.
She first thought if she would give that person a text or something. But a part of her says it would be rude since she just opened a random person's paper thingy.
Besides Yujin's bookish side, she is also amusing and cool. She has this duality. She can be that person who will kill you with her stare or be the cutest human being you'll ever see.
"Eh... I'll text this person!" She put her bookmark in the book and closed it. She then opened her phone and dialed the phone number.
'Calling 09*******'
"Wait, no!" Yujin panicked.
Her mind was cursing at how dumb she was in clicking the call button rather than the message one. She tried ending the call, but the person has answered it.
"Hello?" A girly voice said.
'Play it cool, Yujin.'
"Oh, hi. I mistakenly clicked call rather than messaging you. Uh... I saw this piece of paper in a book called 'The Deep Enders,' and I was curious. Oh god, this is embarrassing."
"Uhm... It's alright. I must've forgotten it... Good thing you found it. I supposed you aren't a stalker or some sort, right?"
"Nope! My name is Yujin."
"Nice meeting you, Yujin. I'm Kim Minju."
"Are you busy?" Yujin asked.
"Nope."
"Great! How is this book? Is the ending good?"
Yujin felt this confidence boost and strived to take out the awkward atmosphere in the call. The shocking part there is that Yujin isn't a fan of talking over the phone. She would prefer meet-ups or texts.
"Oh, no! It's 11 pm already. It's past my bedtime. Let's talk tomorrow?" Yujin said sadly.
"Of course. Same time?"
"Same time," Yujin said with a smile.
"Goodnight, Yujin."
"Night!"
Yujin looked at how long they've been talking and was shocked to see three hours. Yujin smiled and closed her eyes.
The next days, Yujin would read the book in the morning and afternoon and talk to Minju at night. Since it turns out, Minju was a year older than Yujin, Minju offered to help Yujin with some topics.
The once topic about the book turned into random topics about each other's life. In the span on two nights, the two became friends. Not that close as in full trust, but close enough that they were able to know each other's favorites.
Yujin wanted to see the girl in school. For once, she felt excited about going to school. Yujin woke up and hurriedly went to school after taking a bath and dressing. She woke up late because Minju and her kept talking until 1 am even though her classes start at 6 am.
"That's what you call dedication." Yuri joked after Yujin told her about it.
"Pft! I will see you later, Yuri. We agreed to see each other at the canteen today." Yujin said.
"Sure! I'll catch ya in the library!" She said and skipped towards her afternoon class.
Yujin went the opposite way and bought some snacks first before going straight to the canteen. As soon as she entered, she rang Minju's phone.
"I'm in the seats beside the main stairs," Minju said.
Yujin rushed there and took a sip of her drink. She scanned the area and saw a beautiful girl sitting alone in the seats beside the stairs. Yujin went to her nervously.
"Hey?" Yujin shyly said. This girl in front of her is beyond beautiful. It makes her feel shy and conscious.
"Oh, Yujin?" Minju looked up.
"Yup! Nice meeting you personally." Yujin bowed.
"No need to get all formal. We know enough about each other to be considered friends."
"Hehe... You are so beautiful." Yujin complimented.
"Not really."
'Not really? Are you serious? Bruh-' Yujin thought.
"You are beautiful, though," Yujin said.
"You too. I am thankful you found my number. I am naturally clumsy." Minju chuckled.
Oh, her laugh sounded like music to Yujin's ears that caught her off guard. Yujin can't help but admire the girl. She knows this feeling...
"I think I have a crush on her, Yuri-" Yujin ended her narration to Yuri, who listened to her story about Minju and her first meeting.
"You speed bro, but congrats! Introduce her to me soon!" Yuri demanded, excitement evident in her voice.
