As we continue to walk through the crowds the wedding would have to start some time. I began to hear Daren sigh every minute, making me anxious.
"What's wrong?" He asks gripping tighter onto my arm.
"Nothing." I shake my head and look for my aunt.
"Daren!" I hear my aunt call.
He shoots his head to her direction, "Yes?"
"I need my lovely niece again." She says smiling.
I pull out of his grip and walk calmly to my aunt's presence.
"They're moving in now." She whispers.
I hear a groan followed by yelling and I peak out to see Daren with his hands behind his back.
"Stupid bitch." He growls at me.
I walk up to him and slap him hard across his face, "Dick."
Ben runs up to me worried, "What's wrong?" He asks.
I shake my eyes as tears push their way through. It's all my fault my aunt's wedding was ruined.
"He's Daren." I say blankly, "My sphyco ex."
His eyes grow wide and for a second I even think I see a small grin. Clearing his throat he straightens his back.
"So why'd he introduce himself as your boyfriend and why is he getting arrested?" He asks.
"Because he threatened me at gun point." I choke out.
He immediately grows tense and watches as the cops take him away. I see him begin to walk toward them before grabbing his arm.
"Let me." He urges.
I shake my head letting my tears slip out, "It won't fix his screwed up head." I say.
He sighs and wraps his arms around me. An other hug, why'd I only let him hug me? My aunt would hug me but I wouldn't let her, I wouldn't like it. Was this what liking an embrace feels like, it took a while but now I'm realising. What the hell is he doing to me?
I pull away and look up into his eyes, "Thank you."
He nods and takes my hand, I link my fingers with his as he guides me over to the car on the side of the road. Once he let's go I feel empty, a crave?
"You're going home." He says.
"What? - No... I'm-"
"Scared." He interrupts.
I nod defeated, "Yeah." I sigh.
"I'll come with." He says getting in next to me.
We sat in comfortable silence as we drove to my house. When I get out I can feel Ben's presence behind me as I walk to my room.
"Good bye." He says.
"Ben." I plead.
He turns with a frown, "Yeah?" He asks.
"You're a great friend." I admit.
His face glows with joy before walking to me. I'd expect him to hug me but he places his lips on mine. I freeze for a second while processing before kissing him back.
He pulls away and rushes down the stairs and out of my house. I can hear his car leave and I fall onto the floor into a pool of confusion. We're friends, he's lucky to be that. I tell myself. Nothing more Emma.
I sit against the wall and cry every last tear out until falling asleep with my head on my knees.
"Emily."
"Emily."
I lift my heavy head and look up at the face that's calling someone's name.
"Emma." I correct my aunt.
She nods, "Sorry, get to bed."
"I..." I can't finish.
"Come on, you're tired." She says helping me stand.
"We..." I breath, "Ki.."
"Goodnight sweety." She says placing me on my bed.
I don't have time to process before falling back to sleep peacefully.
A few weeks pass and eventually me and Ben silently and solo-ly decide to forget about our kiss. It was an accident, and I couldn't have it anyways. He's so complicated, even if I wanted him I wouldn't deserve him.
"Hey." I say happily to my aunt.
"Hey, how're you?" She asks.
"It's the weekend... I'm great!" I laugh.
My aunt rolls her eyes and continues to watch TV.
"Where's Ben?" My aunt asks.
"I don't know, I'll call." I shrug.
I click on his contact and it begins to ring.
"Hey." Ben's voice answers raspily.
"You okay?" I question.
"Yeah, I can't come over today." He says.
"Why?" I ask.
"Not aloud." He says and hangs up.
He'd been doing that a lot lately and I was planning on finding out why. I hadn't seen him for a long time and I have begun to get worried. He kept saying he was fine but I have known him for almost a year now.
"He's not coming." I say.
"Again?" Aunty asks.
I nod while putting my phone into my back pocket. I could only imagine his reasons, not wanting to I walk to my room and get ready for the day. It'd be a long one for sure.
