"What are you?"
She asks me
Her voice was clear but her question was not
I don't know how to answer.
She points to the rainbow flag in the bio of my Instagram.
Demanding to know just what I am.
But my sixth grade mind didn't know how to answer.
My sixth grade mind was filled with anxiety and fear,
that if I told her the answer
I might as well disappear.
•
Thinking back now.
I know what I should've told her.
Instead of getting up and walking away
I should have told her:
That I am a person
A living,
breathing,
Human being.
I know that's not the answer she was looking for
but that's the answer that I should've gave her.
