TWENTY-ONE
Abigail and Klaus were seated at the mini-bar, the former giving the latter a look of utter disgust.
"Have you ever...heard of a church?"
"To be honest, I'm more a cult person."
Abigail pinched the bridge of her nose. "Klaus, you've been spewing nothing but sexual innuendos for the past two minutes. Can you--I don't know--stop?"
Klaus crossed his arms over his chest. "We won't be here if you weren't ignoring Five ever since the invasion."
He gestured at Five who stood by the sofa talking to someone on the phone with his back facing them. "He's just there, you know? You have to take a break once and a while."
She shook her head and went back to staring at the screen of her phone.
Klaus sighed, hopping off his stool and yanking Abigail out of her seat. The girl let out a shriek as the man pulled her to where Five was. He didn't let her go despite her complaints. Klaus pushed her and Abigail landed on the top of the sofa's back cushions with a soft 'oof' escaping her lips.
Coincidentally, Five was finished with his call.
He turned his head to the side as Abigail opened her eyes, the two locking gazes.
"What happened to you?" He couldn't help but ask.
Abigail pointed to Klaus, who was waving at them with a smile on his face.
And when they faced each other again, no words escaped their lips.
The girl looked away as she flipped her phone open but frowned at the sight of no new message or call.
Five sighed, throwing the device on the sofa and walking over to where Abigail was. He forced her head to look at him and the two were staring intently at each other.
"You look troubled," Abigail pointed out.
"Whose fault do you think it is?" He replied.
There was the same glint in her eyes that made his brows furrow.
"You remind me of myself when I wanted to stop the apocalypse."
His statement made her tense up.
He noticed this, making his suspicion grow more.
But before Five could speak, a chime was heard from Abigail's phone.
Abigail yanked her head away from Five and immediately checked her inbox. Her eyes scanned through the message, widening as she finished reading.
"Yes!" Abigail shot up, gripping her phone with such glee.
Klaus jumped from his seat at her sudden outburst while the frown on Five's face deepened.
"What's wrong with you?" Klaus questioned.
"Diego just sent me a message," Abigail answered. "He said there's a protest going on in front of Revan's building."
Her hand clasped on Five's as she stomped eagerly out of the living room. But when the boy didn't budge, Abigail spun.
She found him lost in thought, his brows furrowed with a scowl on his face.
Abigail tapped her finger on his nose to catch his attention. "Hey, our plan worked. Shouldn't you be glad?"
Five nodded slowly as he forced a smile on his lips. "Yeah, let's go check it out."
