THIRTEEN

Five stared at the door of the Academy that night, hesitating whether to enter or not.

It was a first to notice himself nervous over entering his own home. All he needed to do was to twist the doorknob, enter the rather lavish and eccentric home, and maybe talk to his siblings about what he'd seen.

Except, Abigail was there with them.

Abigail Krone.

His perception of her was now a blur. His thoughts on her antics and notions were all over the place. And yet, his impression of her never changed.

"What am I doing chickening out for? I've killed dozens without breaking a sweat," he mumbled to himself.

The boy gripped the door handle and pushed the door open, an audible creak filled the interior.

Luther rushed out from the living room with a frantic expression. Seeing his missing brother entering the home caused his frown to deepen.

"It's been two days, Five. Where did you go?" He spoke.

Memories of what Five had seen came flashing at his mind once more. His fists clenched as he tried to calm himself down. "What's it to you?"

The brother fumed. "Listen, you--"

Vanya stepped out of the living room and to Luther.

"What's with all the--" she gasped when she saw her other brother "--Five! Thank god you're here."

Five noticed their odd behavior causing his brows to knit. "What's going on here?"

"Hey, I asked a question first," Luther retorted.

"Do you want me to tell you where I've been or not?"

Vanya was able to stop her older brother before he lunged at Five.

"We opened Dad's briefcase," Vanya answered.

"Good," Five began walking towards the living room. "What's inside it?"

"A problem."

Five turned his head to give a questioning look at his sister. When he looked back, he found the rest of his siblings on the seats looking restless.

He stopped. "You all look like shit."

"Gee, thanks for pointing it out," Diego rolled his eyes.

"So, where's the briefcase?" Five looked around. "And why isn't Abigail here with you?"

Diego pointed to their dad's minibar.

Abigail seated on one of the stools, her back facing them with her head propped on her arms. Her messenger bag, for some reason, was on the floor next to the stool she was on.

On the stool next to her was their father's briefcase. The lid was open the contents were out of sight from where they stood.

Five took a step forward but Luther stopped him.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Diego spoke. "By the time she realizes you're behind her, she'll fly you back with Vanya's power."

"Believe me, I tried," Klaus chirped.

"Can we just let her be?" Allison barked. "A thing like that isn't easy to take in."

"But it's been hours!"

Five was starting to get annoyed. "Hey, care to tell me what's inside the old man's briefcase."

Diego answered for everyone. "It had a  research manuscript about having powers, natural or artificial, and how to deal with them. It was honestly creepy if you asked me."
