No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and never give up.❜

I felt a rush of adrenaline as Mia got ready to pitch. Hunter was up last, and I was supercharged to run and get the ball. I thought about all the possibilities if I let him run the bases and I knew that couldn't happen. Half of their team was out because we caught the ball, and the only person on the second base was Archer. They shouldn't have continued because they wouldn't have a batter if Hunter ran, but we were just playing for fun.

Mia threw the ball and Hunter took a step to swing. The ball went high, but anyone could tell it was a foul ball. I vaguely heard Archer slap his forehead in frustration and I contained grin.

He got ready again and swung. This time, I knew I could catch it. I ran under the ball, trying to figure out where I would go to get him out.

I lunged and reached my arm out. My knees hit the floor as I skid, thankfully catching the ball. The girls screamed and started dancing while the boys slapped Hunter on the back of his head. He gave me the stink eye and I returned it with a cheeky grin.

We put all the equipment away and headed back inside for lunch. I needed to be alone for some time so I asked if I could eat in my room, which Mia thankfully agreed to. So I sat in the balcony, scrolling through some articles and occasionally blowing on my mac n' cheese.

A soft knock behind me caused me to tense up and stiffly turn around.

"Yes, Hunter," I said in a soft tone, "what brings you here?"

He didn't answer and just took a seat next to me on the floor.

"Why are you so formal?"

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, "What do you mean?"

He frowned, "No one says, 'what brings you here'. They just say 'yeah'."

I relaxed in understanding, "Oh. I guess I'm just different that way."

He just chuckled, "Why don't you sit with us?"

Shrugging, I played with my hair, "I just needed some alone time."

"C'mon," he urged, "you need to warm up to us sometime."

"Oh, I have," I stated, "But I never get too close to anyone."

He just raised an eyebrow before sighing, "Fine, but you better come tomorrow."

I nodded and gave him a grateful smile, glad he didn't catch what had accidentally slipped out.

Hunter got up, locked the door, and left me at peace. As long as that door stayed lock, I could think with ease.

I finished my lunch and kept the bowl on my desk, coming back out to sleep under the sun. I put on some shades and opened a black umbrella I found in the closet, over my head. As the warmth spread throughout my body as I considered Hunter's proposal.

Sitting with them tomorrow would be mandatory, otherwise, I would come off as ungrateful. I sighed frustratedly and rested an elbow on my forehead, trying to soothe my spiked heart rate.

I also noticed that my vision was blurry again. In one of my beatings, ex-mom had hit me on the eye with a rolling pin, which had me ended up in the hospital for a day. They said that my vision would get blurry fast, and they couldn't tell me why.
