Raphael and I pressed our faces roughly against the bars, trying to get a good look at where the guards were.
"Two in the right, two on the left," He stated before staring at me expectantly.
"What," I hissed, trying not to be seen.
We both ducked, barely evading loads of men on patrol duty.
"You said you know to pick the lock!"
My eyebrows shot up as I realized what he meant, "Oh right!"
I snatched a bobby pin from my shoe, making a face at its smell before angling it on the outside. I fiddled around with it, trying to get the right angle when I heard a satisfying pop.
We both opened it as quietly as we could, the metal creaking loudly when stopped.
"The guards on night shift, let's go," he said.
We quietly snuck out, not wasting time as he led me down the corridor into the weapon division.
Since three days ago, we both had made a plan to escape. Raphael knew the layout and I knew how to pick the locks and other stuff.
I heard the footsteps of guards the moment we came out of the dungeon, and we split up, both of us hiding behind enormous marble pillars, right across from each other.
The guards came closer and without a second thought, I struck.
The first guard was easy, as the element of surprise did it, but the rest of the guards were difficult. I threw the first one on the ground before jumping up and wrapping my neck around the next one.
The other three backed away as I swung around him, breaking his neck. We stood there for a second, no one moving when all three came towards me.
I sidestepped, narrowly evading a punch. My leg automatically lashed, hitting one of them on the head while I blocked a punch from the second guard.
Our hands were a blur as we jabbed, thrust, and punched each other without hesitation. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Raphael leave.
I knew there was something off about him, my mind growled as I ducked a fatal blow. He didn't let me gain the upper hand as I tried swiping my feet under him.
The guard ducked as I kicked his head, elegantly swiping my feet from under me. I groaned as my back erupted with pain has he hovered over me, holding a midnight blue dagger; just like the one Raphael described to me.
I tried moving away, but my breath was too short and I started to feel light-headed.
He was about to plunge it into my chest when I saw a slice metal slide through him. My eyes widened as I forced myself to roll away from his collapsing body.
I laid there, breathing heavily as my heart pounded in my ears.
"Here," Raphael handed me some water while analyzing his newfound toy. A Japanese katana sword. "The weaponry division is just up ahead."
I closed my eyes for two seconds before getting up with renewed energy.
If I die, make sure it's not here, mighty person who may or may not be up there, I begged.
