Vowel diacritics
In Hindi, vowel-symbols are added around the consonants to give the sound of that vowel to consonant.
Let’s understand this in a better way
In Hindi, these symbols are called मात्रा (maatraa)(singular)
The symbol of अ is nothing
therefore क् + अ = क (ka)
the symbol for आ is ा
क + आ = का (kaa)the symbol for इ is ि
क + इ = कि (ki)the symbol for ई is ी
क + ई = की (kee)the symbol for उ is ु
क + उ = कु (ku)the symbol for ऊ is ू
क + ऊ = कू (koo)the symbol for ऋ is ृ
क + ऋ = कृ (kri)the symbol for ए is े
क + ए = के (ke)the symbol for ऐ is ै
क + ऐ = कै (kai)the symbol for ओ is ो
क + ओ = को (ko)the symbol for औ is ौ
the symbol for अं is ं
क + अं = कं (kan)the symbol for अः is ः
क + अः = कः (kah)the symbol for अँ is
क + अँ = कँ (kan)बारहखड़ी
Barakhadi is the list which is formed by combining vowels and consonants
बारह - means 12 ( that is the 12 vowels, excluding ऋ)
खड़ी - which basically means a chain or link
Example:
for ग -
ग गा गि गी गु गू गृ
गे गै गो गौ गं गः( ga gaa gi gee gu goo gri
