Lettie pulls into employee parking at the wreck, fifteen minutes late for her shift and guilt sitting like a rock in the pit of her stomach as she parks. Digging into her pocket for Jj's juul, Lettie takes a quick puff, letting the quick head buzz relax her. She plops it into her cup holder, cuts the engine, and heads inside.
"Mr. Carrera," Lettie says as she enters the kitchen and spots her boss, who is also Kiara's dad. She usually calls him Mike, but Kiara gave her a tip to call him Mr. Carrera if does something wrong, especially as an employee. The brunette stops at the sink, starting to washing her hands, "I'm so sorry! I got held up at the Chateau and lost track of time."
Mike rolls his eyes at the mention of the notorious Pogue hang out spot, "I'll never understand why you and Kiara hang out with those boys. You're both too good for them," The comment makes Lettie frown. Setting his gaze back on the brunette, he looks upset with her, "Since you were late Joey took your spot on the line. I need you on prep and bussing when you can."Lettie nods, the guilt still sitting in the pit of her stomach while she drys off her hands, "Got it."
"And Scarlett?"
"Yes?"
Mike's voice is scarily assertive, "Don't let it happen again."
So, that's exactly what Lettie does. She starts preparing garnishes, cleaning fish and prepping them to be battered. She makes sauces, cuts veggies, fills up line stations with whatever they're running out of and busses tables whenever a member of the waitstaff asks her to. Usually every few minutes.
A couple hours in, Lettie brings out her small tub, holding it on her hip as she loads it with the empty plates of a family who had just left the restaurant. She softly hums the song that's playing over the building's radio, some catchy top 40 song that had been blasted for weeks.
"Lettie," A voice behind her says.
Turning, the girl's blue eyes land on the last person she'd expect to see at the Wreck. Topper Thorton, "Top. Good to see you. Rocking the khakis as always."
The boy rolls his eyes at the remark, "That's all you have to say to me? After your boyfriend-," Topper pauses, leaning closer and lowering his voice, "After your boyfriend held a gun to my head?"
Lettie stacks two cups on top of each other, placing them in the tub, "What do you want me to say, Topper? I'm not the person you're mad at here," She and Topper have an interesting relationship. Their mothers are good friends. Lynette works at the best rated beauty parlour on figure eight, so when she met Cynthia, Topper's mom, they surprisingly hit it off. Meaning Topper and Lettie met quickly after the move, and honestly, Lettie liked Topper. They hung out, surfed, which he is extremely good at, but Lettie definitely gave him a run for his money, and got to know each other. They were friends, technically they still are because of their parents. But then, Lettie met the Pogues, and Topper had a big kook, drama queen moment, and he made her choose between them, and him. It's pretty easy to tell who she chose. Again, she likes Topper, she hopes they can be friends again someday. He's just not a fan of her friends, and she's not a fan of the fight he started.
"I just-" Topper stops himself again, and Lettie stands up straight, finished with the table, "I just don't know why you hang out with them, they're dangerous."
Lettie scoffs, "Last I checked, you threw the first punch."
"Lettie-"
The brunette cuts him off, "What are you even doing here? I'm working."
"I'm here to warn you," Topper says, his smug eyes meeting Lettie's, "And to pick up take out. Whatever. Lettie, I'm here to let you know that I'm gonna get him back, and I don't want you to get mixed up in it."
