Rachel.
"Are you okay Rach? You seem bit out of place for the past few days." A concerned Sam asks. Sitting at the table across me.
Yah! I am! I am having an inner battle with myself. Last week was just wow! It was just a roller coaster ride for me. Went on a mission with Remo as a 'couple', danced, and well I shouldn't forget that I kissed him! And the kiss was heavenly. Except all these I am fine! I am one hundred percent fine!
Rach! What's got into yourself? Good heavens! I am falling hard and fast for Remo. I am a booky and always believed that I need to live in my own fantasy to face the reality. David was not too much into literature, so I dropped my fantasy somewhere in the journey of my life. But Remo! He rekindled it. He is too good at literature. He always uses the right phrase to make upto me. I couldn't believe the fact that when I was about to leave the car he quoted from Longfellow's poem. He's not definitely what he makes me to see him as. He's more than that. God, I miss him. His cocky comments, the way he looks at me when he thinks I am not watching. The way he calls me Angel! These all are just enough to make butterflies sprout in my stomach.
I am discovering the 'old Rach' which I thought died along with David. Remo just goes his own way,I always feel I am the true Rach with him.
"No, I am kinda ok. No worries." I assure Sam.
But it's Sam I am talking about. She won't leave unless she finds something.
Instantly her eyes falls on my ring finger.Good!
"You removed the ring?"
Oh God!
I nodded.
"Are you seeing someone Rach?"
No! No! I should have never let this happen.
"It's not like that Sam. Are you angry?"
"Yes I am."
Oh God!
"Yes I am angry. I am angry that you didn't consider me as your friend to share something like this. But I am hell lot happy that you are moving on." Sam hugs me.
I don't want to tell her that Remo had asked me remove the ring. I was beyond astounded when he asked for it. But I had to. This is the least he can ask me for, for what he did for me last week. I didn't go for walks anymore in the park. I know it was really rude of me to speak in that manner to Remo. But removing the ring! It didn't come off that easy. The ring had become an integral part of me. It was not easy for me to do away with it.
But I was giving life another chance and I wanted Remo to be the new leaf of my book.
"Thanks Sam. We are just seeing each other. I don't want to rush through things. Remo makes me happy and has become one of my reasons to look forward for a day." I blush.
"Awww! I am so happy for you girl. You deserve another chance, love." Sam once again hugs me.
"Are you done with your shift?" Sam asks.
"Yah. In five minutes." I tell her while getting up from the table to throw the coffee can in the trash.
"Bye girl. Enjoy." Sam winks at me.
I wave back at her and leaves the cafeteria. I have to sort out things with Remo. I owe him an apology. But I am too scared to meet his intense eyes. Those eyes look at me as if to peel every single layer of me until I am left with nothing but the true me.
As I was about to leave the hospital. A nurse comes behind me screaming.
"Doctor, there is an accident case. And the casualty doctor has already left. Would you mind to attend to that patient?"
"Of course not. I'll be there in five."
I rush to the casualty,to find a boy around his early teens with bruises all over his body. Blood stained most of his face so I couldn't make much of his appearance. His right hand was broken and was hanging in sling.
I check for the pulse. Thank God it's normal.
"Blood pressure?"
"120 over 80."
"Is he showing any signs of concussions?"
"Not yet. But we are not sure."
"He has a minor bleeding and a broken arm. Just do the stitches and I'll come to have a check on him." I say and leave the casualty.
....
"Doctor, the patient is conscious now." The nurse comes to inform me.
I follow her to room. I see the boy sitting on the edge of the bed looking frustrated. When his eyes meet mine, those pair of eyes remind me of someone.
Oh God! I know those eyes.
"What's the matter young man? I can see a scowl playing on your handsome face." I tell him. His eyes seems to have lit up and his lips almost falls into a curve, but he holds it back. Stubborn!
"I need to leave. I don't give a damn about the wounds." He growls.
"Maybe you don't, but we do Mr.Brave. You are the hope of tomorrow and maybe we don't want to just compromise on our future." He seems to like what I said and finally gives me a smile.
"Hi, I am Dr. Rachel Thomas. You can call me Rachel." I extend my hand forward, which he takes after a moment of hesitation.
"Hey, I am Adamo. Adamo Falcone."
What!? No wonder. He held those same pair of electrifying eyes as his brother's. Remo did talk to me about his brothers and I could clearly see the admiration that his eyes held for his brothers as he talked about them. God! Remo would have exactly looked like Adamo in his teens. Arrogant, stubborn!
"Oh! Nice meeting you Adamo! Should I call your brother, Remo?" I try to compose myself.
"You know..you know my brother?" He asks as if he couldn't take the fact that I know him.
"Yes. I do. We are...we are sort of friends." Really!? Friends? Yah,well for now we both don't know where we have landed.
"Doctor,we have already informed him his brother will be here in any minute." One of the nurses informs me.
"Please don't tell him. That I met with an accident."
"Why? Don't worry he'll not kill you well not atleast infront of me. I'll talk to him. Don't worry." I wink at him.
"That means, you guys are really close friends ain't you?"
"Because he never listens to anyone. If he loses his shit over something, then it's done."
Yah. He is. I know.
"Haha! Let's just check my luck." I laugh to his comment on his brother. But his deductions are correct. But I am not afraid of Remo. He will not harm me. I know that.
The door to the room opens revealing a heaving man.
Remo.
His eyes scans the room and instantly falls on me.
He slowly and steadily walks to me and stands right before my eyes.
"Rachel?!"
Oh God! I missed hearing my name from his mouth.
