'michael, michael clifford?' a blonde nurse with too much makeup on says from behind her desk.nobody answers.
'michael clifford?' she repeats, louder this time, but there's still no answer.
'michael clifford?' she says again causing a few people to look around annoyed.
another nurse enters in the room, whispers something in her ear and then leaves again, as quickly as she entered.
'uhm...' the nurse looks around a bit nervous 'sorry about the confusion, i meant charlie, charlie kelmeckis'
one of the boys who are sitting in the waiting room gets up in silence and walks towards the desk.
'second door on the left' the nurse tells the boy looking everywhere but his eyes 'doctor thompson is waiting for you'
the boy nods and walks out of the room following the indications the nurse just told him.
'hi charlie' doctor thompson says when the boy enters in the room, closing the door behind him.
the boy doesn't talk. he waits standing awkwardly in the middle of the room until the doctor talks again.
'please sit down'
the boy takes a few seconds to react, but he ends up sitting on the brown chair placed in front of the doctor's desk.
'i have to ask you a few questions, it's kind of a routine, is that okay?'
'yeah' the boy speaks in a low voice, almost inaudible.
'what's your name?'
'charlie, charlie kelmeckis'
'i see...' the doctor says writting something in his black notebook.
'tell me about your family charlie'
the boy frowns, thinking about it carefully before answering.
'i have a sister, candace. i also have a brother, chris. my mom is very proud of him'
'what about your dad?'
'i don't know, i haven't seen him for a while'
doctor thompson frowns but changes the subject quickly.
'how old are you charlie?'
'16'
'do you have any friends?'
'yeah, his name is patrick' he answers.
'is he here with right us now?' the doctor asks.
'what do you mean?'
'can you see him right now?'
'why would you ask that?' the boy says. he looks annoyed, he's frowing and his hands are shaking.
'why everyone always ask me that? i'm not the only one who sees him, i know he's real'
they boy has got up from the chair now, he looks really agitated.
doctor thompsom stays in silence, not knowing what to say.
'he is real, he is real, he is real' he keeps repeating the same words walking around the room in circles.
doctor thompson stands up and runs to his side, holding his wrists attempting to calm him down.
'michael, michael look at me' he says trying to catch the boy's attention, but he keeps saying the same words again and again, tears rolling down his cheeks.
'i'm not michael' he flinches away at the mention of the name.
'yes, you are' the doctor replies.
'no i'm not!' he yells pushing the doctor away from him.
'okay, you're not' the doctor admits bitting his lip. this boy is going to be more difficult to handle than what he expected.
'make them stop' the boy yells covering his ears with his hands.
'make them stop!' he yells again, even louder this time.
'stop what?' the doctor asks.
'the voices' he whispers.
'what are they saying charlie?'
the boy doesn't answer, he just shuts his eyes closed and lets the tears fall down.
the doctor is really worried now, in his twenty-one years of being a psychologist he has never seen anyone like this boy.
a nurse enters in the room looking worried. she has heard all the screams coming from the room, and eventhough they've told her she should never interrupt a theraphy sesion, she have never heard those kind of screams before, so she decided to come in.
'what happened?' she asks to the doctor.
'i don't know how to handle him' the doctor says. the nervousness in his voice is noticeable.
the boy is now sitting in a corner of the room, whispering something that nobody understands and shaking violently with his hands still pressed against his ears.
'i'll handle this' the nurse assures him before running out of the room.
she's back in less than a minute with a needle in her hand.
the two men are in the same place as she left them, the doctor looking at the boy extremly worried while the boy cries in the corner.
the nurse walks closer to the boy and grabs his arm gently.
he looks up to her hidding his arm quickly when he sees the needle.
'charlie show me your arm' the nurse demands softly.
'no' he shakes his head.
'it will make them stop' the nurse says causing him to stop shaking and saying no. 'all the voices will be gone'
'you promise?' he asks her.
he looks younger now, like a little boy, scared and defenceless.
'i promise' the nurse assures him.
he slowly offers his arm to her, who grabs it carefully.
she introduces the needle in his shaky arm and in a matter of seconds his eyes are closed and the nurse is holding his uncouncious body.
