Riley's POV
I walked home feeling lonely. I didn't mean to just break up with him like that. What if that girl was someone I didn't think she was. I felt tempted to text him and I kept re-reading our last messages hopelessly. I finally typed something.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to be like that.
He didn't respond on the rest of the walk home, so I just turned my phone on silent. I didn't know when the next duet rehearsals were but I'd just tell Miss Kate I wanted to take a break.
I was in my bedroom reorganizing my closet when my phone lit up.
Meet me at the park in 10
That's it. That's all he said. It was 7:15 and I had no energy or temptation to go out. I forced myself out of the house in track pants and a long sweatshirt. I looked like shit but who cares. I especially didn't. I finally got to the park and it was getting dark out. I found a bench and bundled my knees into my face staring at my phone every so often for a text. I was getting ready or leave when I heard breathing.
"Riley," I heard and it was James of course.
I didn't say nothing because I didn't want to face the fact I might've loved this kid. I was actually scared knowing that he might tell me the truth.
"You know that I'm sorry. You didn't hear who she was. You don't know anything. I'm sorry." He said taking a seat beside me. I kept my knees into my chest and looked at him. He gave me a smirk waiting for me to say something.
"Who is she?" I asked straightly with no emotion. He didn't say anything for a while.
"I don't know what to say, I just don't know how to tell you the right way," he said looking for words. I thought for a second and said "Just tell me." He sighed and started rubbing his hands on his legs. His palms were sweating and he was obviously nervous.
"That was my ex girlfriend. Before you, and before Beth and any other slu* I dated," he kind of smiled but it quickly disappeared.
"We broke up in high school but somehow she got my number. She's friendly enough I guess. But she called me saying she wanted to see me. I hesitated for a while and didn't answer for about a week. She said she had just started going out recently with someone else. I finally agreed, too nervous to tell you," he explained. I nodded here and there. But hung my mouth open at most things he said.
"She came into the Culture Shock not knowing where else to meet her. The first time she came, we just caught up with our lives. I mentioned that I was dating some hot stuff," he winked at me and I couldn't help blushing.
"She came the second time because I found out she worked at an expensive jewelry store and I wanted to work something out with her to get a ring for less money. The ring was for you. Like a promise ring or something. I'm sorry okay. For talking to her and...yeah," he finished, lost at thought.
"That's so sweet. I'm not upset at all James. That's amazing. I should be sorry! Oh my gosh I'll do anything for you to forgive me. I'm sorry!" I said relaxing, knowing the whole truth.
"You'll do anything?" He said smirking and I know he meant it in a dirty way.
"Shut up!" I said laughing and swatting his arm. He laughed along but then straightened his face.
"I get it if you don't want to be with me because that's what I got out of what you said to me in the studio." He said moving closer to me.
"I wanna try. I want to be with you James." I smiled and grabbed his hand.
"Come to my house?" He said pulling me off the bench.
"Sure." I said and smiled sweetly.
"You're adorable beeb." He said and my smile grew and my cheeks were probably red because of what he just called me. Beeb.
