James POV

"Hey Riles," I said as I walked into the Culture Shock. She didn't say anything. She just looked at me. Her eyes were red and her hair was a bit of a mess. She still looked beautiful, it just wasn't usual for her.
"Are you okay?" I asked as I took her hand and sat her down on the couch beside me. She still didn't answer. She started to cry.
"If you don't wanna talk about it-" I started to say but she interrupted me.
"I'm sorry," she said grabbing a tissue from her pocket.
"Why?" I asked but then regretted asking it.
"My grandpa is really sick," she said and then stopped sniffling and crying.
"I'm so sorry," I said and leaned in for a hug but she stood up.
"Me too," she whispered and walked away.

I felt so bad for her. Right after dance, I bought some roses and showed up at Riley's door. I knocked on her door and Emily was there, bright, and happy.
"James...?" She asked looking behind me and than at the roses.
"Riley. Is she here?" I said slowly so she could understand.
"Riley!" Emily yelled into the house and then walked away.
After a few seconds, Riley showed up at the door with her phone in one hand.
"R-Riley," I said nervously. She looked at her phone curiously, like she was expecting a text or a call, and then looked back at me. She looked at the roses. She wasn't crying anymore, and her eyes weren't red. I had to say something else.
"These are for you." I said and held the roses out. She put her phone into her pocket and took the flowers and smiled.
"Thank you?" She said a little confused.
"Because you didn't have the best day today," I said trying to clear things up. She still had a puzzled look on her face.
"Oh, thank you." She finally said.
"He's out of the hospital, we just visited him."
"Okay." I said and was about to walk off her porch but she stopped me.
"You can come in?" She said like a question. I smiled and walked in.

Riley's POV

James walked in and Emily just stared. She was standing at the top of the stairs.
"I'm leaving now Riley." She said.
"Where?" I asked.
"I told you. I'm going out tonight and sleeping over at Tiff's."
I nodded and walked away with James following me.
"My parents went up to Ohio to visit my aunt with my Grandpa." I said. I walked to the living room and sat on the couch. James sat beside me. I pulled out my phone and went onto Twitter. I realized the roses were still in my other hand. I set them on the coffee table.
"They're beautiful," I said looking at them. James smiled at me uncomfortably.
"Bye!" Emily yelled as she shut the front door. Me and James both jumped a little by the door slam.
"You hungry?" I asked.
"Ehh.." He said standing up and stretching. I took out my phone and he just stood up watching me. I dialled the pizza place number and ordered a medium cheese. He sat back down beside me.
"I'm sorry," he said. I put my phone down.
"What?" I asked.
"What happened. Before this," he said thinking.
"With Beth..." I added in.
"Yeah, everyday I think about it. Like why'd I do that?"
"Well," I whispered to myself.
"It's okay." I said and smiled. He looked at me for a while. I looked right back him. It was kind of romantic. He leaned in. He gave me kiss. I kissed him back. His hands were on my shoulders. We were kissing. Here we were kissing in the middle of my living room, with roses on the coffee table. I pulled back and he smiled. I bit my lip and smiled back.
"It's okay." He mocked me. I giggled.

The next day I thought about the kiss. Is this really what you wanted? The guy who broke your heart, just make up and kiss him. Why'd you kiss him? Why'd I kiss him? Who knows. The thought just kept playing in my head. He kissed Beth. Those lips touched Beth. They touched mine. But I enjoyed the kiss. I trust James. He couldn't break me again.
