The night dragged on like molasses the longer Momo studied. The two men who were actually just toddlers in men's bodies had long since stopped arguing about the croc charm predicament and instead had gone for the much more peaceful route of just giving each other the cold shoulder. The main reason for this was because Denki had given Shouto a black eye and because of that, Shouto refused to tell him where he had put his croc charms. But even this new found peace and quiet made Momo's head hurt because it was so quiet that all she had to focus on her were the words on the page and they had all started blurring into one half an hour ago.
"Ugh," Momo released a loud groaning sound that caused even Denki to pull out his earbuds in confusion. Shouto just looked at her with raised eyebrows and Izuku frowned in concern for his friend. But none of them said anything because none of them had to for her to know that they were all silently asking what was wrong. All in different ways, I might add, considering she had just made a sound akin to a dying whale. "My neck hurts and I'm hungry but I don't wanna stress eat and I just want to sleep," She said face down into the crease of her textbook.
No one responded to her, but there was a sudden flurry of activity around her that made her wonder if she had just scared them all away. She couldn't see, of course, that Denki was silently going about the task of making coffee and Izuku cutting up an apple for her whole Shouto slid over behind her on the couch.
"You're so whiny, you know," Momo jumped slightly as the dual-haired man placed his calloused hands on her shoulders and began to massage the knots out of her muscles. He was surprisingly gentle as his thumbs worked out the tenseness between her shoulder blades. Especially for someone with such a bad attitude and stand-off-ish personality. She would've expected him to be one of those people who insists he can give a good massage and then proceeds to shred your muscles fibers, but no. It was actually incredibly relaxing and pleasant. "God, you are tight."
"Hmmmm....half of the things you say have a mildly sexual undertone, did you know that?" She hummed as she rested her head against his knee. She could hear that she had earned the smallest laugh from him, but neither of them commented on it and he just continued to rub her shoulders in gentle circles, working out each knot with expert precision.
"Thanks?"
"You shouldn't thank me for that," She smiled contentedly as their conversation was interrupted by Denki placing a cup of coffee and Izuku putting down an apple and peanut butter down on front of her with a smile. "Are these for me?" She asked as she sat up a little more, Shouto adjusting to her new position.
"Yeah, but make sure to eat the apples with the peanut butter otherwise you'll burn a hole in your stomach lining with just apples and coffee," Izuku smiles and gave a sheepish laugh and scratched the back of his head while Denki just smiled and gave a thumbs up. She suppressed a grin and smiled gratefully at them as she thanked them for their kindness. She had never expected her roommates to be so...nice. Wait- why were they being nice to her? Oh god, was this going to be some kind of "you owe us" thing?
"Why are you being so nice to me?"
"We can not be nice to you if you'd prefer that," Shouto grumbled behind her despite the fact that he continued to massage her shoulders gently. She just shook her head, her silky raven hair flipping back and forth as she did so. Shouto pretended not to notice the way she smelled like peaches.
"No, don't get me wrong, I really appreciate it, I'm just wondering because you guys are never nice to me," She pondered this fact aloud softly and Denki's features scrunched up in protest. Izuku just nodded and Shouto scoffed as though that weren't true in the slightest. "You scoff but I'm dead serious," Momo frowned. It was true, for he first two weeks, they treated her as though she wasn't even there, and they had really only started paying attention to her when she came up with the roommate contract. And even after that they weren't nice to her. Well, except for Izuku, but Izuku was nice to everyone so it was a hard judgment to make.
"What are you taking about? We're totally nice to you," Denki folded his arms across his chest defensively frowning at the raven-haired girl. She just had to stop herself from laughing as she said,
"Oh yeah, like that time you were so nice to me and stole my towel while I was in the shower? Or the time Shouto used my expensive body soap that I told you not to use to wash your junk? Or that time Denki hid in my closet and woke me up with an air horn at three in the morning? Yeah, you're real nice to me," She raised her eyebrows, unamused. The blonde man was obviously trying his best not to laugh at the last one and Shouto could be heard grumbling behind her.
"Okay, valid point, but sometimes we are nice to you, like that time we cleaned your laundry for you because you passed out studying, and us being dicks to you makes it seem so much better," Denki reasoned with a shrug and a raise of his eyebrows, holding his hands out as told to say, "see, I told you I'm right."
"Wha- Your logic is so screwed up I don't even know where to start-" Momo suppresses a smile. Sometimes she couldn't tell if she loved or hated these guys. They flip-flopped between doing things like rubbing her shoulders when she was half-dead from studying, and stealing all her clothing while she was showering. And when they weren't being either angels or the devil incarnate, they were microwaving strange food items and yelling at her for cleaning up the apartment. "Wait when did you do that?"
"I told her not to tell her that, dumbass. Now she's gonna think we're always going to be nice to her," Shouto grumbled and Momo shivered as his fingers brushed her collarbone. She swallowed the momentary falter on her part and managed to roll her eyes at the man behind her.
"Oh don't worry, I was never operating under that assumption..." There was a moment of silence that followed in which Shouto just kept absently rubbing Momo's shoulders, Denki just stood in comfortable silence, and Izuku picked his book up again, sliding his reading glasses back into place on the bridge of his nose. Momo, despite still not feeling super close with this group of guys, leaned her head back on Shouto's knee. He didn't object, so she didn't move.
It was Momo who finally broke the comfortable silence in a way that elicited awkward half-smiles from all the guys as none of them knew how to respond to her saying, "But seriously...thanks, it was sweet of you guys."
Needless to say, the only one of them who had ever
been called sweet before was Izuku, and even he was awkward as hell when it came to compliments.
