Jealousy was a completely foreign emotion to Shouto Todoroki. Whenever jealousy played a role in his life it was becuase other people were jealous of him or becuase of him. There had rarely ever been any times in Shouto's life when he had been jealous (and even those were minimal in comparison to this) which is why when Momo walked through the door and happily announced, "I have a date!" He sorely mislabelled the sinking feeling in his stomach as a side-effect of having not eaten for a while.
"Oh! That's amazing Momo!" Izuku grinned broadly, shooting Denki an almost smug little smile as he stood up to embrace his raven-haired roommate. Denki and Izuku had a small bet going that had started after they'd gotten back from winter break and had managed to stretch all the way into March. Denki was very sure that either Shouto or Momo would break the "no roommate relationships" rule before Momo got an actual date, while Izuku had insisted there was absolutely nothing between them.
Despite the fact that he was down thirty dollars now, however, Denki still smiled because he was genuinely happy for his friend. He was a little worried though. Momo was a person who looked for the romance in everything, and while it was a charming character quirk of hers, it was also something that could easily get her hurt. And Denki did not want to have to deal with a heartbroken girl. The one time his sister had gone through a breakup had wreaked havoc on their relationship because Denki had no idea how to deal with sad girls. Yeah, that was a bad week for him.
"I'm surprised," Denki mused, more to himself than Momo as he studied the online material for his criminal justice class. He hadn't actually meant to say it out loud, but Momo certainly heard him and gave him a rather offended expression that caused him to suddenly panic upon looking up. "Not because I don't think you could get a date. I mean, look at you, you're hella fine. But I just didn't think you'd be focusing on romance while there's still schoolwork to be done..." The blonde answered her silent question in the form of a frown.
"Technically, you're right, I wouldn't. But one of my friends from high school recently called me and so I figured, why not try it out?" Momo shrugged, a bright smile still placed angelically against her lips. Shouto suppressed the resentment that took the form of a knot in his stomach. He didn't even know why this made him so upset. It wasn't like he liked Momo. And even if he did, he wasn't technically allowed to.
They argued all the time about stupid things that made no sense, like "Shouto, you're not supposed to throw away paper," and, "Shouto, why is there bra that isn't mine on the kitchen island?" And Momo wasn't even his type. She wore strictly over-sized clothing whenever she had the chance and she only watched romance movies and she refused to go out or have any fun if there was a possibility that there was one word of her textbook she'd forgotten to read. She hated partying and didn't like meaningless sex.
And so what if she was really pretty and always smelled like peaches and made him smile a lot and both kissed him and tried to touch his penis when she was drunk. He didn't like her. And nothing could change that. Not even the fact that some other guy was going to get to go on dates with her and spend time with her and hold her and kiss her. And he aggressively ignored the way that made his soul cringe and the fact that the glass he was holding suddenly shattered in his hand.
"Ow, shit," He swore at the sudden pain of sharp glass shards cutting at his palm, forcing him out of his own thoughts. He'd been working on his grip strength but he wasn't trying to break glass... Of course, though, it was just his luck that this happened to draw Momo's attention. Her pretty midnight eyes snapped to him in worry and her full lips drew into a frown.
"Shouto, you're bleeding! What happened?!" She was quick to make her way over to him which was really the last thing he needed at the moment. He didn't need her gently laying his hand across hers so she could examine the severity of his wounds. He didn't need her sweetly asking him, "Are you okay?" And he certainly didn't her gently squeezing his shoulder as she informed him that she was going to get the first aid kit from the bathroom.
