Chapter 5: Prefect

Later that week their book lists arrived. Fred and George were explaining how it had been a struggle to find a new DADA teacher.

"Yeah one died, one sacked, one's memory erased, one was locked in a trunk for the whole year" Fred said.

"I wonder why people aren't lining up for the job" (Y/n) said.

"What's wrong with you Ron?" Fred asked him, as he was standing staring at his letter with his mouth agape.

"Prefect" He said, not explaining it.

"Prefect?" Said Fred, and George snatched his letter from him.

"There's got to be a mistake" George said.

They turned to Harry in unison. "We thought you were a shoe in" they said.

"Oi what about me?" (Y/n) said to them.

"Course it wouldn't have been you, you've caused to much trouble" Fred said.

"Yeah lit to many fires" George added.

"And Honeydukes was a bad scene" Harry said stifling a laugh.

"And you cursed Filch"

"And the first time you tried to set Malfoy on fire"

"Then you set the greenhouse on fire"

"Then you broke a window of Honeydukes"

"Then the second time you tried to set Malfoy on fire."

"Except you missed and lit Honeydukes on fire"

"You set your own dress robes in fire"

"You attacked Skeeter. Not that we blame you though"

"Oh yeah and you punched Malfoy in the throat" twins took turns stating everything bad that (Y/n) had done, counting on their fingers.

"Alright, alright I get it! Not the best candidate for prefect" (Y/n) said with his hands up in defense.

The twins then handed (Y/n) the badge so he could look at it.

Just then the door burst open and Hermione came running in. She then saw (Y/n) holding the prefect badge and stopped dead in her tracks.

"(Y/n)? But I thought..." he said turning to Harry.

"Oh no it's not me" (Y/n) said quickly.

"I knew it, me too Harry me too!" Hermione said excitedly.

"Not me either Hermione" Harry said pointing to Ron. "It's Ron whose prefect"

"Ron? Well I... I mean wow well done Ron. That's really..."

"Unexpected?" George finished for her.

"No!" She said going red. "I mean.. it's just.. well Ron's done loads of... He's really..." she trailed off.

"Well I'm proud of you mate" (Y/n) said patting him on the back.

Ron smiled widely at this. "Thanks (Y/n)" he said, still smiling.

"Hey Hermione Why'd you seem so surprised when you saw me holding the badge?" (Y/n) asked her later that night.

Her face instantly went red. "Well it's just that... Well no offense (Y/n) but I couldn't see you being prefect, I mean...."

(Y/n) laughed. "I've caused too much trouble" Hermione nodded.

The remaining weeks of summer past in a flash, and soon everyone was scurrying to get their things together, and to get to the station.

"Be good now (Y/n)" his dad said to him.

"Keep your head down and your eyes peeled" Moody said in his gruff voice.

The whistle of the train went off and they ran onto it.

"Come on let's go find a compartment" Harry said.

"Well you see Ron and I have to go to the prefect's compartment" Hermione explained to them.

"I don't think we'll be there for the whole time though" Ron added.

"Alright then see you guys later then" (Y/n) said, pulling Hermione into a tight hug.

"Come on then Harry let's go" (Y/n) said tugging at his sleeve.

"Alright then" Harry said, sounding glum.

"Surprised your not running off with Hermione" Ginny said to (Y/n) appearing behind them.

"Wish I was" He said sadly.

The three of them set off down the train, however they found that all the compartments were full.

"Hey (Y/n), hey Harry" Neville said luging his trunk behind him. "Hey Ginny. Everywhere's full" he said setting his trunk down beside them.

"There's room in this one" Ginny said brightly "only Luna Lovegood is in there"

She pulled open the door and asked "are these seats taken?" Luna shook her head and went back to her magazine.

They all filed in and took the empty seats. Ginny then introduced everyone to Luna.

(Y/n) had taken off his arm, and was waving his wand over it and muttering different incantations.

"Oh guess what I got for my birthday" Neville said happily.

"Another rememberall?" Harry asked him.

"No (Y/n) got me one of those for Christmas a few years back"

"Haven't lost it have you?" (Y/n) asked him.

"Not yet" Neville said with a laugh. "But look at this" he said as he rummaged through his trunk.

He pulled out a plant that looked a tad like a cactus, except it appeared to be covered in boils.

"Mimbulus Mimbletonia!" He said proudly "it's really rare!"

"Does it eh do anything?" Harry asked him tentatively.

"Loads of stuff! It's got an amazing defense system. Here hold Trevor" he said handing Trevor to Harry.

Neville then pulled out a quill and gave the plant a quick but firm prod with the tip of his quill.

Liquid then squirted from every boil on the plant. Thankfully (Y/n) was able to cover his eyes with his disconnected arm.

Harry who was holding Trevor, however got a face full of the foul smelling liquid.

"Sorry I've never tried that before. Don't worry though stink sap isn't poisonous" Neville said quickly, watching Harry spit out a mouthful.

Just then the compartment door slid open and Cho Chang entered. (Y/n) enthusiastically waved his left arm at her which was still in his right hand.

She stared at him for a second, slightly confused, and slightly horrified.

"Never mind that" Ginny said "look we can get rid of this easily" she said pulling out her wand and saying "scourgify" and the stinksap vanished.

They sat around for an hour of so passing the time with ideal chit chat.

"Do you think Ron and Hermione will show up?" Harry asked them.

"Course they will. Well Ron will anyway" (Y/n) said.

"How can you be so sure?" Harry asked him.

"Because-" (Y/n) started but he was cut off as Ron flung open the compartment door.

"YOU GIT!" He shouted pointing at (Y/n).

"I may have stolen Ron's badge" (Y/n) finished calmly pulling Ron's prefect badge out of his arm.

"What can you blame me? It was so shiny"
(Y/n) said in defense.
