Chapter 36: Grawpy

"Just a little further in now" Hagrid said.

They came into a clearing of trees, with what appeared to be a mound of dirt on the other side of it.

Only the mound seemed to be moving up and down, as though it was breathing.

"No way..." (Y/n) breathlessly.

"H...Hagrid you said that none of them wanted to come!" Hermione said

"I couldn't leave 'im 'es my brother" Hagrid said smiling.

"Hagrid, when you say brother?" Harry said.

"Well half brother, turns out me mother took up with another giant after me dad, and then she had Grawp here-" Hagrid told them.

"Grawp?" Harry asked.

"Yeah well tha's what it sounds like when 'e says 'is name" Hagrid explained.

"Oh Hagrid, what are you going to do with him!" Hermione cried out.

"Hey I think this is a great idea Hagrid! Maybe he could work at Hogwarts as well, you know like an assistant or something!" (Y/n) said excitedly trying to run closer, but Hermione grabbed his hand and pulled him back.

"What are the ropes for?" Harry said quickly, pointing to two thick ropes tied to a thick tree.

"Is probably just a safety precaution" (Y/n) told Harry.

"Yeah it is. 'E's only small you see, doesn't know 'is own strength" Hagrid said.

"What do you want us to do then?" Hermione asked tentatively.

"Well look after 'im of course" Hagrid said cheerily.

"What... what does that entail?" Hermione asked anxiously.

"Not getting food or anything, he can get 'is own food fine. No what 'e needs is company. Someone to talk to, someone to teach him! Hagrid told them.

"Can do boss!" (Y/n) said with a thumbs up.

"You want us to teach him?" Harry asked incredulously.

"Just try to" Hagrid said hopefully. "I don't 'spect you to do much just pop down every now and then to see 'im"

"Well we'll try" Hermione said quietly.

"You can count on me Hagrid!" (Y/n) said patting Hagrid on the back. "Hey do you think we could talk to him?"

"That's a great idea (Y/n)" Hagrid said smiling.

"No no it's alright Hagrid" Harry said quickly, glaring at (Y/n).

"No! Hagrid it's okay no need to wake him seriously!" Hermione shrieked at Hagrid, but he had already picked up a large branch and was waking towards the sleeping mound.

"All righ' Grawpy? Did yeh 'ave a nice sleep?" Hagrid called up to him.

Grawp pushed himself to his feet, and rubbed his eyes with his boulder like fists.

"Oh my!" Hermione squealed squeezing (Y/n)'s hand tightly.

"Heya Grawpy how is it going!" (Y/n) yelled to Grawp eagerly.

"Anyway Grawpy I brought the some friends! I've got some company for yeh! Oh look 'ere yeh big buffoon!" Hagrid said before giving Grawp and poke in his knee with the tree branch.

Grawp looked down, only just realized he wasn't alone. "This Grawpy is 'Arry. 'Arry Potter! 'E'll be coming to visit yeh if I 'ave to leave. Understand?" Hagrid called to Grawp.

"This 'ere is (Y/n)! 'E'll be 'ere to visit you if I ever need to go!" Hagrid said.

"Heya Grawpy! I'm excited to get to know you!" (Y/n) yelled at Grawp waving frantically like a madman.

"An' this is Hermione, see? Her-" Hagrid stopped for a second and then turned to Hermione.

"Would yeh mind if 'e calls you Hermy? It'll be difficult fer 'im to remember" Hagrid asked Hermione.

"Not at all" she squeaked.

"This is Hermy Grawp! She'll be com in' to visit you an all won't that be nice- GRAWPY NO!" Hagrid yelled as Grawp shot a hand out at Hermione.

(Y/n) quickly pulled her behind a tree and out of Grawp's reach.

"Bad Boy! Very bad Grawpy!" Hagrid yelled. Hermione was clinging onto (Y/n) shaking like mad.

"It's alright love, it's alright" (Y/n) said holding her tightly trying to calm her.

"Righ' well I reckon that's enough fer one day" Hagrid said grabbing his crossbow and leading them out of the forest.

"That was great!" (Y/n) said excitedly.

"Maybe for you" Hermione said still shaking.

After that they walked in silence until they exited the forest, and Hagrid waved goodbye to them and entered his hut.

"I don't believe him!" Hermione said, still clutching onto (Y/n). Hermione clearly still shaken about Grawp, (Y/n) on the other hand seemed extremely excited.

"I know Hermione I can't believe this either! A giant here! In the forest! I can't wait to talk to him and get to know him!" (Y/n) said practically bouncing up and down.

"Absolute loon" Harry muttered glaring at his excitement.

"There's a giant in the forest! A giant! And Hagrid expects us to give him English lessons!" Hermione squealed.

"I know it's going to be great!" (Y/n) said.

"We haven't got to do anything yet" Harry said.

"He's asked us to do this if he gets chucked out and that might not even happen" Harry said.

"Of course he's going to get sacked!" Hermione shouted out in frustration.

There was a moment of silence as Harry glared at Hermione, and (Y/n) glared at Harry because he was glaring at Hermione.

"You don't mean that" Harry said to her angrily.

"Yes... well... no alright I'm sorry I didn't" she said quietly wiping a tear from her eye.

"This is going to be great!" (Y/n) said, as they other two glared at him. "A giant! At Hogwarts! And we get the privilege of teaching him!"

"You. Are. A. Total. Lunatic!" Hermione said to him, stopping between each word to emphasize her point.

"That may be, but I'm YOUR lunatic" (Y/n) said bopping her nose with his finger, causing her to smile slightly.
