Oh no.
The kingdom's holding an awards ceremony for us.
Even though I did absolutely nothing.
And Ban's leaving.
He told me yesterday, because we kind of have a brother-sister relationship. He's going to the Fairy King's forest, and then he's going to look for a way to bring Elaine back to life.
I jumped off the roof, landing lightly on my feet, as I saw Ban and King talking.
"Hey, Ban. Just wanted to say goodbye." I then turned to King. "You're going with him to the Fairy King's Forest, aren't you, Harlequin?"
"H-how'd you know?" he stutters out.
I pat him on the head.
"I've been there myself, once or twice."
Of course, but that was hundreds of years ago.
"R-really?"
"Of course. It's beautiful."
Though I'm sure it's different now.
"Bye, Sal." That was Ban.
"Yeah, bye, Salome. See you soon."
"See you later, Ban, King."
I continue waving to them as their figures go into the forest, before turning around and walking back inside.
I'm going to miss him.
"Hey, Melio, Gowther, King, Diane. You clean up nicely."
"Alright then, let's go."
*
"All righty then... who's next?" calls Meliodas.
We're at the awards ceremony. However, there's a slight problem.
There are murmurs in the crowd as Deathpierce, a diamond-ranked Holy Knight, picks up the body of his unconscious comrade.
"Pardon us," he apologises. "Dogedo's words offended you, so I apologise on his behalf. But please forgive him. His best friend lost his life in the battle that occurred while we were away."
"...and with that..."
"I've seen enough." Deathpierce states. "I more than acknowledge your abilities, Meliodas."
"Oh?" Melio questions. "I guess that tiny example was enough for you."
Deathpierce makes yet another compliment, before taking his leave.
Hawk then reads everyone's combat class, with Gowther's being 3100, Diane's being 3250, and Merlin's being 4710. Then he turns to me.
"Wow!" he says. "Magic – 1180, Strength – 1170, and Spirit – 1250. That adds to a total of 3,600?!!"
Huh. Compared to normal Holy Knights, that's a lot. Of course, it's nothing compared to what it used to be.
We start on our way back, when we bump into Howzer, Griamore and Gilthunder. The Troublesome Trio. Just great. Griamore thanks Melio for what he said about Dreyfus and Hendrickson.
"On one hand, he killed his comrades and got away... and on the other hand, he risked his life to save them." I muse. "It certainly seems paradoxical."
"The Chief Holy Knight's actions, that is." Merlin adds, before flying into the air. "When things aren't consistent with each other, you must try seeing everything as opposite."
"Once you assign meaning to seemingly unnatural actions, a completely different answer comes to light." I say.
"Sincerity becomes malice." Merlin continues.
"Reality becomes illusion." I add.
"Meaning comes to the meaningless." Merlin finishes.
"W...what are you saying?" Howzer questions.
"Think about it." I respond. "Then you will find your own answer."
"If people stop thinking, they're done for." Merlin says, shrugging.
"Let's go, Captain." I say.
"Hmm? Okay."
"Bye, Howzer." Diane waves to a very flustered Howzer. He definitely has a crush on her.
"Don't think too deeply about it, 'kay?" Melio calls, saluting. "You Trio of Troublemakers!"
I giggle into my sleeve as we walk past them.
We head to the throne room, where King Bartra thanks us.
"But... rather than the threat of the Holy War disappearing, it has grown all the more stronger!"
A shiver runs down my spine, and my eyes narrow. So they got away with the Coffin of Eternal Darkness, did they?
"A new omen comes to the kingdom to the south. The beasts like mountains awaken. Four heroes will confront them. Darkness will hollow out a mighty cavity in the earth."
"Bartra. What did you see?" Meliodas asks urgently.
"The new kingdom to the south." The King responds. "A massive threat is closing in... on its capital of Camelot."
