final moments

gasping for breath
and urging to live
your body begins to leave
your chest grows too heavy
and you start to heave
waterworks pushing out,
gushing out,
your guilt, pain, fear, anguish,
the ugliness,
the shaken body of a girl
left behind by a man
she loved to kiss
almost a year has gone
you really thought he was the one
and he took you in his arms
willingly, fatherly
he'd take care of you
and he did so well
the osmosis of your personalities
complicated your condition
decayed your already faint identity
but it all felt fine, melting like candy
he is everything he can be
but you no longer fit like
the puzzle piece, you worked so hard to find
he droops, "i'm sorry"
you know it's no one's fault
"it's okay"
you know it WILL be
a final embrace of once-lovers
your last drops of self are dripping
out your eyesockets
he pulls something out of his pocket
"this is for you"
"oh, okay"
the muscle memory of expected love letters
your heart, for just the second,
all but leaped
only to crash like a meteorite, destined to fall
back into his arms
"is it too late?"
"we're going to need some time"
