Chapter 9: Dangerous

Diane's POV

I woke up with the sunlight in my eyes. Me and Riley didn't go last night. I just wanted to rest from everything. I can't believe that after all this, after Riley would help me free my dad, I won't see him again. It would hurt so much more if I get too close and I wouldn't wanna hurt him too. So from now on, I gotta keep my distance.

I was still laying in bed when I heard a knock on the door. Of course I know who it is, Its only the two of us here so..

"Its open!" I shouted too lazy to get the door myself

"Heyy, breakfast is downstairs and I uhh was just wondering why we didn't go last night.. Is there anything wrong?" Riley asked sitting on my bed

Yes, Riley. Everything is the opposite of right. Everything is perfectly wrong.

But of course, I wouldn't tell him that.

"Uhh.. I was just feeling a bit weird last night.." I said

"Are you sick? Do you want me to go get you some medicines or anything else you need?" He asked coming closer to me, putting his hands on my forehead trying to check my temperature.

He's so sweet.. I.. I couldn't.

I threw his arms away.

"I'm fine. Don't touch me" I said as cold as I can be.

He was a bit shocked by my new attitude.

"Oh.. uhmm well breakfast is ready and I'll just leave you alone so you can rest. I'll be downstairs if you need anything." He said and walked away

Ugh I can't do this.

But I have to..

I went downstairs and the breakfast he prepared was very thoughtful.

There are two napkins that are folded in a triangular shape something that you would see in a hotel, It probably took him a lot of time to fold it like that and then there's hot chocolate and the foam was a smiley face shaped and it has a sticky note on it that says: "Good morning, your majesty! Since you are the queen, you deserve nothing but the best breakfast. Enjoy!" ha I still remember the bet he lose from me and wow this is all so overwhelming and all I did to him was push him away.

I looked around and he was nowhere in sight. Maybe he went outside so I did.

And there he is.. sitting on the sand.. watching the waves.


I debated in my head if I should talk to him or not. I want to but I can't but at the same time I can't take the thought that I just pushed him away and wasted all his efforts.

"Hey" I said finally sitting down beside him

He looked at me then back to the waves..

"Hi" He greeted flatly

"I'm sorry about my attitude a while ago.." I said

"And that was a really nice breakfast you prepared I appreciate it. But I haven't eaten yet since I wanna eat it with you" I added

"Why were you suddenly so cold? Is it about that phone call last night?" Riley suddenly asked

"Riley, its nothing okay? I said I was just feeling weird but I'm okay now and I'm sorry so let's just go inside and eat." I said half mad half calm

"What was that call about?" He asked again and this time he's really getting in my nerves

"I am done with this conversation" I said and stood up turning away from him


Until he pulled my wrist, making me stop.

"If its nothing then why won't you tell me?" He said looking me in the eyes.

"Its none of your business" I said coldly and pulled back my wrist out of his grip.

If I really want us not to get hurt at the end of this then I better end this before it even begins.

I walked back to the cabin again and Riley was following me.

"What is it with you today?" He shouted

I faced him.

"What is it with you being so nosy!?" I shouted back

"I just want to know why you're acting different!!" He asked

"And why would you care!? huh!? You're nothing but a stranger who just walked into my life and you think you know me!?" I shouted at him

"I may mean nothing to you but you mean so much to me, I maybe a stranger to you but I care about you enough to risk my career, my reputation and my life, I may not know you but I think I love you!" He shouted coming closer to me, each word that came out of his mouth is one step closer to me and when he said those last three words we were centimeters apart.

And thats it.


Thats where my walls break down. I didn't care about anything else. I didn't care about what anyone would think. I just grabbed his face and I kissed him. Not long enough til he responded and he kissed me back. I felt his hand found all the way down to my hips. It was a harsh kiss but filled with emotions.

Then I pulled away.

Leaving him with a shocked expression. Shocked that I kissed him and shocked that I let go.

"I-I shouldn't have done that." I said

"I'm sorry, I need to go.. I just.. I just need some air. Forget this ever happened" I said grabbing my keys from the desk and just left.

I left him hanging there.

And I left with my pajamas without any disguise on..

I grabbed my helmet and rode my motorcycle.

Ugh Diane why did you kiss him you idiot!!

Although you must admit that it was a meaningful first kiss and you enjoyed it but dang what part of "KEEP YOUR DISTANCE" don't you understand!?!

And just as I thought of that, I saw a truck in front of me with a sign at the back thats says "Keep Distance" well thanks destiny, you had me there.

I kissed him and I told him to forget about it.. What was I even thinking!?

He's probably so confused right now.

Well I am too.

I can't handle this.

I'm gonna go for the day and let him have some time on his own.

I'll just send him a text.

I parked my motorcycle in the side of the highway, the part where people can stop if they broke down there cars or anything so I can text him.

I sent and went on my way to my uncle's shop.



Riley's POV

I confessed and


She kissed me but


She left.


She just left me hanging.

I am beyond confused right now.

A moment later I got a text, its from her.

From: Diane

"Hi. I'm sorry for kissing you. I don't mean to lead you on or anything. I don't know what got into my head. I know you're confused but you're not the only one. I've decided to come get the things we'll be needing on my own. So now you have the cabin all to yourself. I am allowing you to invite someone you can trust so you won't be alone while I'm out and I know how much you miss your brothers but you know my case Riley, Just invite one of them so it won't be too obvious. I'm really sorry for everything today. Let's just forget it happened and I hope you forgive me, in the end everything I did to you will all make sense. For now enjoy your time and I'll see you real soon."

"I know you're confused but you're not the only one"

Does this mean she likes me too but she's in doubt?

Is she pushing me away for a reason?

Is it about that phone call last night?

So many questions in my mind ugh.

wait..

She said I can invite someone I can trust, I think its time I call the "love expert"

I dialed Connor's number and its not long until he picked up.

Connor: "Riley! How are you? I'm glad you called!"

Me: "Well I'm physically okay but I'm an emotional wreck bro"

C: "What happened? For sure its about her. What did she do? or what did you do?"

Me: "Can you just come here?"

C: "Are you sure about that?"

Me: "Well she's not here and she told me I can invite one person that I trust, that understands our situation and its only you I can think of. But you have to tell no one, not even Toby and especially Mom and Dad, Don't tell them"

C: "okay I got it.."

Me: "and bring a guitar with you!"

C: "writing sessions huh? I've missed this"

Me: "I know, Me too.. I'll text you the address. See ya soon"

C: "Okay, See ya"

I hang up and texted him the address.

I watched some TV so I can entertain myself a little while I wait for Connor.

I watched an episode of spongebob don't judge me, its a classic.

I eventually got tired of watching TV so I decided to walk outside the cabin for a while and just watch the waves.

This is beautiful. Its something I'll surely miss when this is all over. I wish it won't be over though.

"Riley!" I heard a familiar voice calling out my name.

I looked behind me and it was Connor.

I smiled and walked up to him.

He gave me a man hug something that we barely do but this time its reasonable.

"I've missed you bro" Connor said

"Yeah me too" I smiled

"So this is their hideout huh? I thought the address you gave me is some dark alley or something but the beach? wow they really are smart. I never would have suspected. No wonder why you don't wanna go home" Connor said looking around the beach

"I know right? Let's go inside" I said and we walked inside the cabin.

"So what did you tell Mom to get you permission to go out?" I asked

"Well I told her I'm gonna go over to some friend's house and jam with them so I can have an excused too for bringing a guitar with me and then she lend me her car so.. yeah.." He said

"Oh.. classic" I said

"So what's up?" He asked

"Okay well you know they kidnapped me right? But she let me go that night when her father got caught but I didn't wanna go because I've seen something in her and that I wanna help her change which sounds really cheesy I know and I also know everything that comes along with helping her, the risk of my career, my reputation and my life but she's worth the risk. Then last night she had a phone call I don't know who called her but it changed her. She suddenly was pushing me away and this morning I confessed that I love her and she kissed me! She did! then after she kissed me, She told me to forget it and then she just left." I explained

"Well Riley you are damn in love. And if you're confused now I can tell she's more confused than you. She's indecisive and maybe she's just trying to protect you too." Connor said

Which actually is making sense.

"She actually also sent me this text after she left" I said and handed Connor my phone

He read the text and thought for a while.

"I think she's just trying to protect the two of you from getting hurt. I mean Riley she's right. She wants you to forget it because if your relationship to her becomes deeper than this then it will be harder for the both of you. Just think. After all this, what would happen? You'll go in separate ways. She's protecting herself and you. As I see it, She likes you too but she's holding back for a good reason." Connor stated

"You're right and I hate that you're right." I said

He's right. Why didn't I think of this? She's holding back because she didn't want to get hurt, she didn't want me to get hurt because she cares.

"The love expert does it again!" He said and I rolled my eyes at him

"Do you think that phone call has to do anything with all these?" I asked

"If anything, that phone call helped her see the risk of what you two might have so that phone call made her realize it more" Connor said

And again maybe he's right.

"C'mon bro, don't be sad about it. I know what will make you feel better..
Write it." He said

And the ideas came to mind.

I grabbed a pen and a paper and I just wrote everything that was in my mind.

"Connor.. I think I just wrote a decent song" I said handing him the song I wrote on the paper..

"This is actually a pretty good song. I mean its personal but I think this can be a hit! with the right tune and melody this can work!" Connor said optimistically

"Connor, I'm pretty sure no one can relate to me.'I fell in love with a criminal' ? I just wrote it so I can get things of my chest" I said

"Yeah but this lyrics are catchy, we can make it like an upbeat song! Doesn't matter if no one can relate but we're just going to entertain or we could make it like a sarcastic song. No one would ever know" Connor explained. He really wants this huh

"Okay then. Let's get to work."


~~~~~~~ DANGEROUS ~~~~~~~

Me and Connor worked the entire day to make the tune and we decided to cut the song into three parts for the three of us and we added some harmonies and melodies too. For now we created an acoustic version, Since the guitar is the only thing that we have here. Connor already have an idea about the track. He'll be producing it. And then after all that we'll do the vocals.

I looked at the time and it was already 8:30pm. We started at 12nn so we've been making this tune for 9 hours now. I wonder where Diane is at this time.. I hope she's okay.. We have a lot of things to work out..

Then I heard the sound of a motorcycle parking..

Connor stopped playing the guitar.

"What's that?" He asked

"I thinks it her" I answered

"Oooooh so I'm gonna meet her tonight? This is bound to get interesting!" He said excitedly

"You better leave now if I were you.." I said flatly

"No way bro, I'm not gonna let this opportunity pass. I wanna see her." He exclaimed

"Okay but remember she's mine. I call dibs!" I said

"Yeah yeah.." He replied rolling his eyes

And after that odd conversation the door knob turned and Diane walked in.

"Oh... Hi!" She greeted when she saw Connor

"H-He-Heyy.." Connor stuttered his eyes following every move she makes

"Have you guys eaten yet? I brought McDonalds" She said waving the mcdonalds paper bag in her hands

"Thanks." I simply said

She handed me the paper bag.

"Dig in! I'm just gonna go change" She said and went upstairs leaving me and Connor alone.

"OHMYGOD RILEY SHE'S GORGEOUS" Connor said, his eyes widened.

"I know"

"I would even offer myself to get kidnap by her oh god. Now I understand why you don't wanna come home with me. I'd stay here too" He said

I rolled my eyes at him.

"Its not just about her looks that made me choose to stay here. Its everything about her that I adore, Its not just her appearance but her whole being is beautiful." I stated

"Thanks!" I heard someone said behind me..

She's behind me, isn't she?

Oh great Diane heard me, This is so embarrassing.

"Oh.. Hey Diane.. didn't see you there" I said and my whole face turned red

She giggled.

"You're such a dork" She exclaimed

"He is" Connor added

I rolled my eyes at them.

"So you guys wanna eat now or what?" I said trying to change the subject

"Nahh you guys go ahead I'll just finish something upstairs" She said and went back upstairs

"I guess its just you and me bro" I said

"Wish she could've join us, I would love to get to know her" Connor said still starring at the stairs where she just went

I smacked his arms

"Back off dude, She's mine" I said

Connor put his hands up in surrender

"But Riley, just in case I'm wrong that maybe she doesn't really like you uhh Can I ask her out?" Connor asked

I smacked his arms real this time, I smacked him so hard even my hands hurt.

He put up his hands in surrender.

"Ow dude!! of course I wouldn't ask her out, I'm just playing with you! jeez" Connor said then he laughed

Then I laughed too.

"Let's eat."
