CHAPTER 26

My head felt ponderous. Everything around me started to flashback and I felt my blood running through my veins with unforeseen force. Why did they write a letter to me when they left me halfway in my sufferings? It felt like, running away from them was just pointless. Again and again in some way or the other, they come in front of me like nothing happened. I clenched the letter in my hand as the handbag slipped away from my other hand. The utter suffocation was killing me to a level I could take. All my happiness to meet Jenny was drained in a second. My legs felt weak and I fell on the doorstep.

*thud*

I am amazed. My family never wrote any letters to me out of shame. My dad has a well known business and he never wanted a bit of my shadow over it. I was left to be on my own and now when I am actually doing well, they are again coming back. I had no clue what must be written inside it but I was sure that there must be something big happening in there life to write me a letter. I had no energy in me to get up so I banged the door with my hand as I sat. I turned my legs side-wise and held the letter in my hand. I looked at it and smiled sadly. Somewhere deep inside, my heart always wandered for love of family. I knew very well that my dad loved me but not more than his status. I prayed for some peace within me as I crushed the letter to my chest. I wish they wrote something that would make me feel wrong about them; make me feel I am also loved by them.

*creak (door opens)*

"Anna? Oh my God! Its you babe," I heard Jenny scream in joy. I hid the letter in my jeans pocket and then smiled at her as well as screamed back. "Yeah I think so. Ya its me .. uh, me right?" I said playfully and saw her squint her eyes at me. She waved her hand in the air. "Whatever. Come here you little minx." I laughed out loud and got up. She hugged me like never before and we yelled out loud and hooted. "Oh! God damn, I have to know about so many things that have happened with you Anna," Jenny said as she unwrapped her arms around me. "By the way, I think I have many things to hear from you too," I said as I winked at her and lifted my handbag from the flooring. She made a face and shook her head in denial. "Nah, there is nothing. It has just been boring without you. Now come on, are we going to talk about everything here itself?" I giggled and shook my head left to right. "Nah babe." I took the bag in and stepped inside my home. Yes, this was my home and will always be.

Jenny asked me to sit while she dragged the bag back to my room. Meanwhile, my eyes started wandering over the walls and corners of my home. I missed each and everything about it. I let my hands roam all over the sofa as I closed my eyes and felt the warmth of it. "Anna, I am really sorry I took time to open the door," said Jenny as she plopped on the sofa beside me. I opened my eyes and looked at her. "Yeah, I forgot to ask. Are you okay? I mean, you took more than five minutes to open the door." She took a cushion from my side and kept it over her lap. "I stopped asking for delivery of milk and newspaper. So when I heard a knock at our door early in the morning, I thought there must be a guest coming over or a postman. That's why I got ready." She picked up the cushion and stood before my eyes and showed me her attire. Owing to the letter I saw few minutes ago, I didn't even look at her properly.

She was dressed in black faded jeans and red plum top. "Oh! sorry I didn't notice Jenny. By the way, why did you stop milk and newspaper service? You love reading newspapers," I asked. She sat beside me and turned to my way. "What would I do with them alone? I can have tea and newspaper at my office," she winked at me as she said. My eyes popped out as I heard her say office. "What? No! are you kidding me? You're working?" I asked as I held her by her shoulders. She chuckled and shook her head in happiness. "You have no idea how alone I felt when you were gone and in order to get rid of my boredom, I applied for a job in designing. And yes, I got approved," she said cheerfully. I screamed in joy and congratulated her on her new job. Damn, I missed her. I promised her that I will make it up for her. She thanked me and we decided to party all night long.
