Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Devil Fruit

I sat in the middle of the small boat as Luffy and Zoro rest on either end. They seemed much more relaxed once they are back on the sea.

I look up at the night sky and just stared at it. Analyzing every star that was shining.

"Ugh... I'm hungry..." Luffy whined as he leans on the side of the boat. 

"Of course you are. We can't go back to the village since they're going to see Kimiko." Zoro grumbled as he remained his eyes closed.

As soon as I was recruited, Luffy wanted to go get something to eat but since everyone thought I was dead, I can't go back there. I politely told the two they can go while I stay in the boat but they didn't like the idea so we just set sail for the night.

I smiled at the whining form of Luffy as I felt a pang of guilt hit me. I glance at my bag and instantly remember that I have packed some fruits with me.

I quickly grabbed two apples from the bag. I turned to Luffy and stretched one of the apples towards him.

"Here, Luffy." I smiled at the whining captain.

Luffy brightened up immediately as he took the apple from my grasp. I nod at him before looking over to the sleeping form of the swordsman.

"Zoro... Here. An apple." I muttered as I present the fruit to him.

He opened one of his eyes and stared at my outstretched hand for a while, contemplating whether to take it or not.

"You can have it," Zoro muttered, still gazing at the juicy apple that was on my hands.

"I'm full." I smiled at the man. He probably thought I'm giving the rest of my food to them and starving myself.

Zoro raised an eyebrow at me, not believing that I actually am full.

"I ate before the event transpired," I mutter so that he would finally believe me. Though, he still continued to observe me.

"If Zoro doesn't want it, I'll eat it!!!" Luffy declared as he proceeds to reach for the apple. And just like that, the first mate quickly snatched the fruit from my hands.

I smiled at them both before I went back to watching the night sky.

My home was destroyed, I almost died, I finally broke down after 10 years and now I'm a pirate.

Such an eventful night.

I hummed to myself, closing my eyes so that I can finally sleep.

"Oh yeah, Kimiko! You said you have a devil fruit right?" Luffy suddenly asked as he leans over to my side.

I tensed at the question before slowly nodding at my captain. He's gonna find out soon enough... Might as well tell him now.

"What is it?" Luffy tilted his head as he stared straight at me. I can feel Zoro also bearing his eyes on my form.

"Smile-Smile Devil fruit." I softly muttered as I threw a grin at Luffy.

"Woah!! Is that why you're always smiling?" He awed, leaning closer to my face.

"No... not really," I mumble, the grin still present.

"Eh?"

"I don't know what happiness is. I never really knew how it felt..." I started to explain to the both of them.

The two quickly grew silent at the sudden revelation of my lack of emotions. They didn't say anything as they peered at me, waiting for me to proceed.
