Chapter 29 - Playing with dolls

AN: I know, I know, I haven't kept to the schedule I'd set but with good reason this is one chapter I had to keep walking away from and chip away at gradually. The fight between Ginger and Lal Mirch is one I wanted to try and do justice to, also I know how others feel about part chapters so I didn't want to do that to you either. To that end this chapter is the longest I have ever and I do mean ever written. I hope you guys enjoy this bumper chapter as I may or may not do another should the plot call for one, without further ado enjoy.

After thirty minutes give or take we reach basement 8 in this damn maze, Lal figures out the closet point to hack into the servers whilst Tsuna gets healed by Ryohei. As the others get amazed by how little power Tsuna used in that last attack, I just sigh and move on wanting to get this over with as this is just the prep for the big event. That said I may be bitching and moaning about it now but this, this will seem like a pleasant memory by the time that rolls around. Chrome catches up to me and talks quietly as if sensing my mood.

"What's the matter Hime?" (Chrome)

"*sigh* Oh Chrome If we weren't needed as guardians I'd have been tempted to keep us back, however the fight that is coming up I want you to be prepared to step in with me on my signal." (Aloy)

"Hime?" (Chrome)

Chrome looks at me confused as she knows that I rarely voice out my negativity, or rather in this case it's rather boredom that I will more than likely miss when things heat up.

"I'm just bored Chrome there's no need to worry, however all this is unneeded for us two. I won't spoil the surprise however, but this next fight is the only one we need to take seriously." (Aloy)

"Why Hime?" (Chrome)

"Lal nee needs this and that's all I will say Chrome. It's not my place to say anything further." (Aloy)

At my words Chrome just nods but whether she understood my meaning? I have no Idea I'm not psychic or a Yamanaka (besides it being the wrong universe for that). Anyway moving on the gang are currently marvelling at the sight of mould on some vents, I just shoot them a pitying look before moving on as they still haven't realized what type of base this is. I should tell them you say? Now where is the fun in that? Chrome is the only one who knows and that's only because I told her, now I could have let her figure it out like the rest but she'd have told them then.

It may seem cruel doing it like that but this lot need to work on their observational skills, I mean the clues are all there and dammit the mould is like the final piece of the puzzle. Shut up because I've seen the anime? You don't need to have seen the anime to have figured it out; I mean the bulkhead doors are a big in your face hint never mind the fact that the biggest hint is the blueprint maps. Let's not even get me started on the fact that the final piece is now staring them in the face, especially when you consider that their base (also underground) had no mould whatsoever.

Before we go any further along the corridor I decide to call Lal over, as it's time to give her a little something that will help.

"Lal, could you come here a sec?" (Aloy)

"Sure Hime, what is it?" (Lal)

I pull out a cable from my helmets access port as I turn to her.

"I can give your headset a much needed tactical upgrade, only if you want it that is but I'll tell you this. It is a only a hot fix for your firmware and will only take thirty seconds." (Aloy)

I can tell that she's unsure about having it done, but then again we are in the middle of an operation. Hey it's not my fault I forgot I could share my suits abilities! Besides all that I'm sharing will do is smooth out her targeting algorithms, in English this means she can target, fire and dodge faster thanks to the patch. After what seems like an eternity she nods before taking the headset off, I gently take it and plug in my cable and giving the necessary command.
