Eritria's POV
As the entrance exam finally started a maze of mirrors surprised us all.
While I'm still analysing the area, the other examinees already get in without thinking what lies ahead and moments later I already hear screams echoing from different directions.
Idiots.I'm still standing here at the entrance while the cold air presses against my skin. All I can see is countless mirrors!
I started moving forward as I try to think of a faster way to end this before time runs out. The mirrors are 5 centimetres thick which mean that they won't break easily. Still, trying my luck, I smashed the mirror using the scythe. It proved to be a useless attempt.
Meanwhile the mirror panel is 8 feet tall and that would be no problem since I'm 5'9 and I can use my scythe to lift me up and try to find the way out. But as soon as I jumped up with the support of the scythe my sight was obstructed somehow. I couldn't see a thing until I fell down and that's when I regain my vision. Well then, I have no choice but to walk and find the way out of here.
It's been clearly 15 minutes since I got here and though it's good that the second sentence is already clear to me, "The switch goes on and off" yet every 5 minutes the lights turn off and then it will take 5 minutes again till the light switches back on. This shit makes it more difficult to see where we going.
And the problem is I still can't find any signs of demons! I keep thinking about this with exasperated breaths when something catches my eye; a boy. I can see the reflection of a boy with specs who is holding his knife cowardly in his grasp. He was doing fine until he set his foot in the wrong place and with that, a sharp bamboo struck his foot, making my ears fill with his agonizing scream.
Oh such a cry baby, that's what I clearly think of him. By the looks of it he triggered a cartridge boobie trap. This trap was an awful one because it was very difficult to detect. A cartridge - a round of ammunition - would be set into a piece of bamboo and lowered into a shallow hole in the ground. At the bottom of the bamboo were a board and a nail. The regular weight of someone walking on the cartridge would drive the nail into the primer, turning and firing the bullet upward through the unsuspecting victim's foot.
After that, the poor boy aggressively taps his watch and clicks the surrender button. Before we got in, Mr. L'muel had added a detail that when we are really in trouble and don't wanna continue, we always have the choice to surrender. The boy instantly disappeared. Oh well, goodbye.
After that "incidence" I'm wondering how will I know if there are any boobie traps around. That's when the lights go dark and I feel something was off. I have definitely triggered something and with that, I feet automated guns reveal up from my sides and they fired bullets manically. Luckily, I'm gifted with electro-kinesis where I can create, shape, manipulate and enhance electricity which is a form of energy resulting from the movement of charged particles that allows me to take control over electronic fields and electromagnetic forces.
With my enhanced speed I deflect every bullet using the scythe, breathing heavily as the guns finally stopped firing and slowly moved back into the mirror panels, like nothing happened.
Now what did I do to trigger those guns, I wondered while the lights came back on, making me see the surroundings better. As I thoroughly inspect the area, something caught my eye on the lower part of the mirrors. As I look intently at it, I find rays of white laser that you wouldn't really notice unless you closely pay attention to it.
I sighed. So that's how they detect and trigger the traps; at least now I know. Now that I recovered from that deadly trap, I stood up and continued to walk through the maze of mirrors, but not too long a new problem arises. As I look back to the path where I came from, I realize that now it was blocked and before I know, someone is already staring at me a few feet ahead.
As I slowly look back ahead, a gigantic orc greets me with eyes full of rage. It has this flat nose, disgusting fangs and frog-like skin that made me squirm in disgust. And with that, the orc continuously tries to smash me with his big, heavy, metal mallet while I just carry on dodging his attacks. What can I say? His actions are very easy to read.
Well, I don't have time for this. I only have 25 minutes left and the lights will probably turn off soon so without any hesitation I dodge his attack and jump to his arm to have a better spot, and with one swing, I let his head feel the cold floor. After that a door appears while I was swinging off the disgusting blood of that creature from my blade. Along the way, I continued slaying monsters which, I guess, included two orcs and two demons. I realize that only 15 minutes are left and I need to hurry since time is running out.
While I'm calculating how I should spend the remaining time, I open the door which appeared when I killed that demon, only to be frustrated there amid a misty environment again.
Although this time I avoided it while slaying the monsters for Mr. L'muel had said, "Avoid the mist as much as possible; it brings a lot of trouble," Now that I remember, I still don't know what the third sentence means, "To the bottom of my heart may you find your way out," Is there any way out at the bottom of the Maze? But even if there is a way, how can I find the centre of all of this?
I can't use the mirrors as a guide for it will take me forever to find it. But come to think of it; where does the mist come from? Where is the source? Now, this could be a good guide. I bet the source of the mist is at the centre of the Maze and I'll also know if I'm getting nearer for the mist would get thicker with every nearing step but the problem is that I don't know what the mist encases that Mr. L'muel wants us to avoid.
All of those questions are going through my mind while I find myself walking towards the mist. Well, let's see...
As soon as I walk towards the mist, everything changes.
Where am I? I asked myself as I look to the clear, blue sky. It's so warm. After all these years I finally feel the radiant rays of the sun; it feels so good. I am in an open grassy field with butterflies fluttering their wings with elegance. The chirp of birds fills the space and I can even hear the distant flow of water from some proximate river. It is so refreshing here! I never imagined that, just for once, I can feel peace. But all of that disappeared when I heard their voices, all the memories flashed through my mind; the peals of laughter, the pain... that night.
"My Princess, come, I already prepared your sandwich and orange juice," said a woman.
"Come, let's fly the kites later. Let's eat first, princess," said a man.
No, no this isn't real. Why...?
"M-mom...? D-dad...?"
