Luke sauntered down the stairs early and I was caught off guard. He didn't miss the sleep in my eyes I had tried to disregard, embarrassed to have been caught in such a situation I kept quiet. My lips pursed expecting some questions or a lecture of sorts when he sat down beside me, instead I was greeted with a warm mug of coffee and silence. I was grateful.

After some time he went to get up, instead of blubbering out words he was unsure of he gave the top of my knee a reassuring squeeze. Not questioning me as my eyes filled with tears, his light orbs filled mine with reassurance a slight nod that it would all be okay and he returned up the stairs to get changed for the day.

I finished my coffee, listening carefully as the early snowplows finished their routes and the sky began to brighten. "Can you take Mase today? There are some things I need to take care of." I asked him thoughtfully, a dangerous tone riding with me.

He gave me a once over, checking for any battle marks before agreeing, "I will go get him up now, we will be at the training center if you need us." Without another word he was back up the stairs and gone, reliability. Luke had always been there, eager to help where he could, a good sense of humour, a strong backbone. I almost resented him for it, for the moon goddess pairing me up with someone who was at least the exact opposite.

The room filled with tension as my mate met my gaze at the bottom of the stairs, his arms raised in a joking manner "I just want to talk". I gave him a dark look, I was no longer in a mood for soft jokes or dancing around we needed to have a real conversation.

"You wanna talk?" I spit at him sweetly, "that's the exact opposite of what you were doing yesterday. Pushing around your pack members across that podium, pushing around me. Does that make you feel good about yourself or something?!" I yelled.

His eyes were darkening but I continued, "does it make you feel powerful? Oh don't worry the Alpha is just fighting his own pack members, his own mate!" I spit the last word out with distaste, my claws engaged as I gripped the countertop trying to keep some part of me from completely losing it.

His jaw was locked and I was surprised he was able to speak through such harshly grit teeth, "I was teaching some pack members a lesson. A lesson on how to defend themselves properly."

"Really? Because for everyone else it just looked like you were completely out of control." I licked my lips with distaste.

His eyes wondered to my mouth and he looked at me with such longing, normally I would turn from his gaze but for now I held my ground. "Do you even understand what you do to me? I am close to losing control every time you are near me. My wolf wants me to take you, claim you as his."

His arms caged me into the countertop, he was unraveling and we both knew it. "Doesn't seem like you care what our wolves think," I reminded him flicking the love that was still traced down his collarbones.

"That's different," he grumbled out.

"Is it?" I tested, "if that's the way it's going to be maybe I should head out, start looking for someone else too." I pointed my eyebrow, not needing to explain further. His arms tightened and he closed in on me.

"You wouldn't" he gritted, his eyes swirling with emotion.

"You don't know anything about what I wouldn't do Xavier," I bit back.

"She's an old time friend," he said slowly, choosing his words carefully. "I was with her in high school, she never found her mate and after rejecting you she just stayed around, it never became serious but she stayed." His words sounded honest but I wasn't going to bite, my eyes still strung on the marks of his neck. "She didn't get any further than what you see, I wanted to come home. Come home to you and Mase."
