"Congratulations you two! Your baby is a boy!" Dr. Green cheered.
A smile broke out across my face and I felt Liam squeeze my hand. I looked at Liam to which he returned the huge smile. With his free hand he cupped my face and planted a deep kiss on my lips.
"Uhh we're still here," Dr. Griff awkwardly retorted. My lips froze and ceased all movement, my face hurting from embarrassment. Liam replied with an annoyed groan and broke contact.
"We were having a moment Dr. Griff," Liam mumbled angrily. Dr. Green let out a hardy laugh as she handed me a wipe for my stomach.
I wiped the gel off my stomach and Liam help me down from the hospital bed. Liam kept a hold on my hand and laced his fingers through mine once I was on my own feet.
"Let's head to that spare room and get those pots out of there," Dr. Griff said to Liam. Liam gave me a smile as we followed Dr. Griff and Dr. Green down the stairs of the barn. We only made it a few steps however when Dr. Green fell and slipped down the remainder of the stairs.
"Linda!" Dr. Griff yelled out and ran down to be by her side.
"I'm fine Charles," Dr. Green told Dr. Griff. Huh well apparently their first names are Linda and Charles.
"No you're not. Your head is bleeding!" Dr. Griff said in a bit of a panic.
"Get her back up here. I'll look everything over while you two move the flower pots. We'll meet you at the house once we're done," I said calmly.
"Are you sure? You're pregnant can you handle this?" Dr. Griff asked me. Liam snorted at his statement.
"She's pregnant not paralyzed," Liam answered for me. I smiled up at him and squeezed his hand a bit harder in gratitude.
"Get her back up here it should only take a few minutes," I said and turned around and went back up the way I came.
"I can get up there myself. I'm really fine," I heard Dr. Green. I heard two sets of foot steps leave the barn and another follow me up the stairs. I walked over to the correct station to examine Dr. Green and waited for her to sit down.
Dr. Griff was right about the blood but it wasn't much. I picked up a gaze and started cleaning the wound.
"So am I going to live doctor?" Dr. Green asked me in a sarcastic tone. I let out a chuckle and grinned at her.
"I think you'll see another sun rise. You won't even need stitches, it was just a bump on the head," I told her in a light tone. I put a bandaid over the cut and went to grab an ice pack from the mini fridge that was next to some of the serums for shots. I went back and handed it to Dr. Green for her to use.
"Drink lots of water and ibuprofen for the pain. If you have any problems with dizziness, fatigue, or blurry vision go in and get an MRI," I told her as I sat down in the chair next to hers.
"Thank you," she said with a light smile. She looked around the room and her eyes seemed to glaze over a bit.
"What do you think caused the drop in birth rates?" Dr. Green suddenly asked me. What did I think? My mind instantly wandered to that mysterious blue liquid from my years in medical school.
I shook my head and answered, "When I was in med school I found a liquid that was something I'd never heard of before. Haven't heard of since too. I thought for a really long time that maybe it was linked and did a bit of research on it. Before I got any definitive answers about what it was or what it did though all the research disappeared. I still think it's linked somehow. If I could only figure out what it was used for."
Dr. Green's eyes went wide. "Why did it disappear?" She asked me in unbelief.
"I must have been on to something that someone with power didn't want me finding out," I answered.
"This sounds like an end of the world movie," she told me with a small laugh. I laughed back in response.
"In a way isn't all of this like one?" I asked her.
Her smiled died and morphed into a foreign frown, "I guess you're right."
