Words kept floating through my hazed mind. Married, children, some of the last people were mainly it though. I have learned a lot today.
"Okay go through what we're supposed to do again Dr. Griff," Liam told him. After our mouths started to work again after that bomb of information we asked him a few things, one important one being what his name is.
"You both will leave this building through that door at the end of the hallway. Outside you will find a house and a large barn. Those two buildings will be your home. Inside the barn there will be a small mechanical set up for Liam as well as a doctors office for Ava and gym. You will use those to make your life safer and easier. When you need extra parts, are in great need of something new, or are in danger you will come here. You will tell the holo what it is you need and by the next day it will be in the stationary capsule that Ava was in." Dr. Griff has gone through our instructions for our new life about five times now, however with how burdened my mind is it took til this round for me to completely comprehend it.
"Why can't you get us those things by handing it to us in person? Where are you based?" I asked curiously. They must be close if they can basically mail us supplies why can't they just hand them to us in person?
"I can't answer that. I wouldn't even need you guys to tell me anything through the holo about what you needed if you had just agreed to the monitoring terms before your memory wipes!" He was obviously frustrated with our past choices, but I couldn't help but be thankful to my past self for not agreeing to it.
"You guys could change your minds about it. It's not too late. It would make it to where you wouldn't need to ask us for anything it would just be there. We'd be able to help if a true emergency occurred as well." Dr. Griff tried to convince us.
Heck no! They may be able to help more that way but then they would just be watching us all the time. I can't stand the thought of them seeing me in more intimate moments.
"Maybe we should talk about it?" Liam grabbed my attention as well as my left arm. He looked conflicted. Like he didn't really know what to choose.
If he isn't sure then I definitely need to be. "No way! We are not saying yes to their monitoring!" I told him and lightly hitting him upside the back of his head to snap him out of this terrible terrible thought.
"Ouchy," he mumbled while rubbing the back of his head. I just shook my head side to side in a slightly annoyed manor.
Dr. Griff just sighed like he knew what was going to happen all along. "Well if that's all I feel it is time for you two to make your leave from here and into your new lives. Goodbye Ava, goodbye Liam. I truly hope I'll be able to speak to you both again." I saw a small tear fall down his face and then the the holo's image disappeared.
I turned to my husband. He was still looking at the screen as though in deep thought. Wow he looks so cute when he does that. His eyebrows scrunch up and he starts biting his bottom lip... It's adorable.
After about a minute or so I got bored of waiting for him to notice me looking and to get out of his head. Should I just leave without him? No, that could be bad this dumbo would probably get lost on the way to the door... wait why did I just assume that?
Shaking my head I cleared the unwanted thought away. I'll just touch his arm or something. I reached my hand out but couldn't seem to make the full distance to his arm. What am I doing? This is ridiculous he is my husband I can touch him! That didn't stop my hand from falling back however. No this is dumb just do it Ava. I quickly shot my hand up to his biceps.
"We should go Liam," I told him. My voice sounded much stronger and confident than I felt.
He looked down at my hand in shock. Honestly I was too. I can't believe I am touching this magnificent arm! Wow whoever his parents were I wish I could remember if I thanked them for giving the world this visual blessing. His arms felt like stone and looked like a sculpture too.
After about 5 intense seconds he finally answered. "Yeah you're right," Liam said all the while removing my hand from his upper arm. I felt myself frown for a split second until he did something else. Instead of just dropping my hand like I had expected he laced his fingers through mine and put our joined hands between us.
I felt a small gasp escape me and I felt my frown turn into a smile that probably resembled the Joker. Way to go Ava now he probably thinks you're all weird or something.
"What do you think it'll be like?" my husband asked me. He turned us towards the door that lead to our new life.
"Hopefully something amazing and not terrible," I tried to joke. I knew the joke wasn't very good as soon as I said it but thankfully he smiled and laughed softly. What an amazing sound.
"Well only one way to find out," he said as he made the first step towards the door.
