Kiyoko glanced at the clock just as the bell rang to signal lunchtime.
"Kiyoko, you can go." Her teacher said from the front of the room. "Everybody else, stay."
"Thank you, Miss." Kiyoko said, standing up, and feeling people follow her with her eyes, as she arrived in the corridor, the lucky students were walking down to the cafeteria, but instead of taking right turn like everybody else, she took the left turn to the sports hall, and ran into Yachi on the way, who was heading the other direction. "Yachi?" She asked.
"Oh, Hi Kiyoko!" She said, smilling. Kiyoko noticed the little dimples that appeared just under her...freckles. Where were they? Maybe she just couldn't see them in this light. "So, you heading to the sports hall?" She asked.
"Oh- Uh, yeah!" Kiyoko replied, snapping out of her trance. "Aren't you?"
"Yeah, I'll be there in a bit.I need to do something first, though."
"What is it, I'll come with you." Kiyoko offered, and Yachi blushed. "Yachi? Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, I just, some kid said-" Yachi turned her face away. "I know I shouldn't let it get to me, its just words. But some kid made a comment about my frec- my face."
"Your freckles? Did you cover them?" Kiyoko said, as Yachi hid her face and blushed. "I noticed them last night," She put her hand around her wrist, and lowered it. "Words can hurt." She looked around, and noticed a group of people whispering, two girls and boy. "Lets get going to the hall, we can talk on the way." The two set off down the corridor, talking at the same time. "People hurt, but words hurt more, but you shouldn't change yourself because people don't like an aspect of you."
"Easier said than done."
"I know." Kiyoko replied, pushing the door open to the outside.
"You know? But your so- so confident!" Yachi exclaimed, stopping dead in her tracks. "I mean, not to sound rude, but everybody likes you!" This made Kiyoko laugh as she continued walking down to the sports hall, and Yachi hurried to catch up with her.
"Thanks Yachi, but you, and everyone here likes me for the me I like people to see. Does that make sense?"
"Yeah, that make sense." Yachi replied, smiling. "I guess I kind of feel that way to, with people knowing the me I want them to, but I've kind of let it slip lately."
"Is that so?" Kiyoko turned around and smiled at her. "Well someday, I'd like to know the 'real' Yachi, if that's ok. Come on, we'll be late." She continued to walk, and Yachi stared after her.
"Some day I'd like to know the real Kiyoko to."
"Are we late?" Kiyoko asked, opening the door. "Sorry."
"Not late, Kiyo, come sit down. Hey, Yachi." Suga said, addressing his friends.
"Hey Suga." The girls said together, and Yachi went to sit down next to Hinata, and Kiyoko with Suga and Daichi. Daichi glanced at Kiyoko, then at Yachi, and Kiyoko shook her head, and he sighed, leading Suga to put his hand over his, then take it away as quickly as possible, which made Daichi smile. "Ok," Daichi stood up, "So, I suppose that Coach wanted to speak to us all, so he called us here."
"You mean you know nothing about why we're here?" A first year, Tssuki piped up.
"If you would let me finish, I would guess this is some form of team building exercise?"
"For lunch? And if for the team, why are me and Kiyoko here?" Yachi asked, and Daichi looked at her.
"Like I've said before, you and Kiyo are both valuable members of the team. We'd be lost without you. You both have to give yourself more credit for what you do for us. Thank you."
